Overview
Lead Engineer, Mechanical, WTE Project Development at Malakoff Corporation Berhad.
Responsibilities
- Review and understand all mechanical-related clauses in the EPCC contract. Monitor the EPCC contractor’s adherence to these terms and conditions and manage any variation orders or claims related to the mechanical scope.
- Review and endorse all mechanical engineering deliverables submitted by the EPC contractor, including drawings (single-line diagrams, P&IDs, etc.), specifications, calculations, and technical reports to ensure compliance with the Employer’s requirements, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and relevant codes.
- Ensure that the EPCC contractor’s mechanical design aligns with the project’s design basis, safety and performance requirements.
- Work with other discipline leads (electrical, instrument & control, civil, etc.) to manage interfaces and ensure the mechanical systems integrate with the rest of the plant.
- Oversee all on-site mechanical construction activities, including erection of major equipment (turbine, boiler), piping, environmental control systems, and other balance of plant (BOP) equipment.
- Monitor the EPCC contractor’s procurement process for all mechanical equipment and materials. Witness and endorse FATs for critical mechanical equipment to verify functionality and compliance before shipment.
- Track the project’s mechanical schedule, identify potential delays and bottlenecks, and work with the PMC to implement corrective actions to keep the project on track.
- Coordinate and participate in the development and review of pre-commissioning, commissioning procedures and commissioning schedule. Witness and approve critical tests to ensure all mechanical systems are functioning correctly.
- Review EPCC contractor’s progress reports. Provide regular, detailed reports to the Project Director / Employer on the status of the mechanical works, including progress, budget, quality, and any critical issues.
- Maintain effective communication with all parties, including the Employer’s management, the PMC team, the Owner’s Engineer, and the EPCC contractor, to ensure alignment on project goals and efficient problem-solving.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university.Minimum 8 years of working experience, including :At least 6 years in power / utilities / waste management (or similar industry)2 years in a management position / leading role, preferably in engineering, technical support, project or construction management.Strong technical expertise in power plant and waste management, particularly in mechanical, process, incinerator, boiler and turbine systems.Good knowledge of power and waste management-related laws, policies, codes and standards.Good knowledge of project development, construction management and O&M.Benefits
