Role Description
Responsible for the development / facilitation of an Infection Control Management System for the hospital. Provides on-going training and education to all staff on all aspects of infection control and acts as a resource person. Works with the Infection Control Committee to develop policies and procedures. With the assistance of the Infection Control Link Nurses, monitors hospital infection incidences and reports to the Infection Control Committee on the trends of infection within the hospital. Implements Infection Control policies and ensures compliance of infection control practices according to procedures.
Job Scope
Daily Routine :
- To monitor hospital infection incidences and liaise with doctors and nurses on the corrective and preventive action to be taken.
- To liaise with infection control link nurses and lab staff to collect data on infection control.
- To conduct clinical surveillance throughout the hospital in order to assess the efficacy of infection control measures.
- To analyse data and trends to detect outbreaks enabling early investigation and intervention in the control of the spread of infection.
- To provide feedback on infection control issues to the Infection Control Committee.
- To ensure notifiable diseases are reported to the relevant Health Authorities.
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities :
To develop policies on Infection Control.To conduct infection Control audits in accordance to the Infection Control Management System.To prepare and review the Infection Control plan and obtain approval from the Infection Control Committee prior to implementation.To maintain minutes of infection Control Committee meetings.Provides training to nurses and other healthcare personnel on Infection Control Best Practices.To be involved in Quality Improvement activities in the hospital.To develop a departmental budget and justifying budgetary needs.To update on best nursing practices by reading current literature, discussing with colleagues, participating in profession conferences and seminars.To evaluate and provide feedback on new clinical products and equipment.To oversee and advise hospital management, vendors and contractors on expansion and / or renovation works.Risk Management and Quality Improvement
To update the hospital management team and Infection Control Committee on current pandemic / epidemic outbreaks.To obtain and disseminate information from CDC and MOH on current guidelines related to pandemic / epidemic outbreaks.To facilitate pandemic drills.To assist Quality and Nursing Department in regulatory, audit and quality review functions.To facilitate infection control related awareness programs.Supervision and Evaluation of Infection Control Training Programs
To oversee and facilitate the development of appropriate evaluation and testing materials for all training activities and provide feedback to the hospital management.To coordinate and facilitate infection training program for Infection Control Link Officer.To monitor, evaluate and maintain records and reports of infection control training activities and program effectiveness.To oversee the development of alternative training methods if expected improvements are not achieved.To perform other related duties as assigned by superior.
Job Requirement :
Registered Nurse (RN) as recognized by the Nursing Board of Malaysia.Minimum 2 years’ experience as Registered Nurse or similar capacity.Post basic certification in Infection Control / APSIC / Advanced diploma in related area.Strong organizational skills.Must maintain confidentiality.Able to work independently.Able to work with all levels of staff.Seniority level
