IT Administration Senior Specialist (Deputy Manager)

The role is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and security of the AS400 (IBM i) operating system and applications, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with industry standards. This includes managing system configurations, user access controls, security policies, and software updates to safeguard critical business applications. The role also involves troubleshooting system issues, optimizing performance, and supporting disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BCP) initiatives. Additionally, collaboration with internal IT teams, business users, and external vendors is essential to ensure seamless operations and continuous system improvements. Job Description Perform maintenance, performance tuning, and health checks on AS400 core system databases. Optimize query configurations and indexes to improve DB2 for better performance. Analyse system utilization trends and implement necessary optimizations. Validate sequence numbers post-restoration and assess data masking compliance. Troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis for OS and database issues. Update and synchronize PTFs and firmware as per requirement. Monitor batch processing performance and ensure timely incident resolution. Provide day-to-day support for Production, DR, DEV, and UAT environments. Ensure License Program and PTF compliance with company standards. Collaborate with third parties on PTF upgrades and system enhancements. Support system monitoring, server management, and performance reporting. Manage network connectivity, applications, and data security in compliance with industry standards. Oversee user account management, access control, and data protection. Participate in disaster recovery (DR) planning and ensure readiness. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware / software issues, escalating when necessary. Support AS400 core system application teams throughout project life cycles. Analyse system, server, and application performance for optimization. Plan and implement software / hardware upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations. Conduct research on emerging technologies to enhance system efficiency. Qualification / Requirement A Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, or other relevant IT qualification. Professional certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator (iSeries), IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert, IBM DB2 for i, and ITIL Minimum 3 years relevant working experience, preferable involved in AS / 800 operations in banking or financial institution. Proficiency in IBM software’s including WAS (WebSphere Application Server), BRMS (Backup Recovery and Media Services), and SMF (Security Management Facility). Experience with DXC applications for Group and P&C (Property & Casualty) insurance systems. Proven experience in system availability management, disaster recovery (DR) planning, and business continuity (BCP) support. Familiarity with IBM Power Systems hardware (Power 9, Power 10) and OS versions (IBM 7.3, 7.4, 7.5). Have expertise in AS400 (IBM i) administration and OS / 400, including system upgrades, performance tuning, and security management
