Senior Engineer – Security Engineering

Job description

The person in this role is responsible for security engineering, which involves creating, implementing, and monitoring the performance of security projects related to specified security technologies. The goal is to identify, develop, define, and document the system security requirements for each tool or system, ensuring alignment with group security policies and standards. This individual will need to work closely with various teams within the security function to support multiple business units across Asia, Africa, and the UK.

Job Responsibilities :

Participate in the security engineering function, focusing on the design, development, and implementation of relevant security technologies.
Plan, develop, and improve various security technologies in alignment with the organization's information security strategy.
Collaborate with a team of security professionals to handle endpoint protection, data loss prevention, email security, network security, vulnerability scanning, encryption, and key management.
Configure, troubleshoot, and deploy security-related infrastructure, software, and hardware across on-premises, cloud-hosted, cloud-native, and SaaS platforms.
Issue requests for proposals (RFPs) and requests for information (RFIs), and evaluate solutions based on their capabilities and how well they meet organizational requirements.
Assist with proof of concepts (PoCs), technical evaluations, procurement, management, and configuration of security technologies in various environments.
Manage security projects to completion, ensuring they meet scope, timelines, and budget constraints.
Continuously analyze and improve security systems, focusing on automation, environmental integration, and custom features.
Stay informed about the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends to proactively manage risks and enhance security.
Perform risk assessments and develop contingency plans for potential security incidents and business continuity issues.
Act as a subject matter expert for the security technologies within scope, offering technical guidance and recommendations to stakeholders across the organization.
Address security product escalations, identify gaps or defects, and work with relevant parties to implement solutions and workarounds.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and transfer related to managing security technologies to ensure ongoing security operations and business continuity.
Work with cross-functional technology teams to balance risk management across security technologies throughout the organization.

Essential Skills and Competencies :

Experience implementing solutions in at least one security area, such as endpoint protection, data loss prevention, email security, network security, security baselines, encryption, or key management.

Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of projects across various security domains to ensure successful completion.

Knowledge of deployment tools and technologies, including SCCM, Infrastructure as Code (IAC), Terraform, and Ansible.

Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Perl, Python, or Shell scripting.

Strong understanding of technology concepts related to servers, endpoints, databases, networking, applications, middleware, and cloud environments.

Experience managing and aligning stakeholder expectations across business, technical, and operational teams.

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills.

Education and Experience :

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

At least 7 years of experience in security engineering within large organizations.

Experience in a global or regional context is preferred, with additional experience in the financial services or technology sectors being advantageous.

Familiarity with at least one cloud service provider (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).

Relevant information security certifications, such as CISSP, CCSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+, are preferred.

Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
