This Legal Officer assists and supports the Legal team on all Legal Department’s scope of work. The candidate is expected to manage various stakeholders across the Company and its subsidiary companies ("Group") to ensure standards and conforming practice across the organization / business units of the Group. To succeed in this role, you must be agile, independent, a good team‑player with positive attitude to learn and grow in a fast‑paced environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Draft, review and advise on legal agreements / documents concerning the organization and its subsidiaries ("Group")’s wide range of business, commercial products and services, including non‑financial agreements and in‑house support services contracts.
- Handle legal documentation and involvement of Group’s projects and initiatives, including Group’s subsidiary management. Standardise legal documentation, processes and templates and develop templates in relation to Group’s new and current business, products and / or services.
- Highlight legal risks / exposures involved, identify possible breaches and non‑compliance under applicable laws and regulations as well as internal procedures and policies and offer mitigating solutions.
- Draft, negotiate and review legal agreements / documents to ensure the rights and interests of the Company and the Group of companies are well protected from legal perspectives.
- Liaise with business units and external lawyers in relation to litigation / consumer’s complaints filed at Consumer Tribunal, and attend Consumer Tribunal hearing on behalf of the Company and Group of Companies.
- Provide legal advisory to the business units and Group of Companies.
- Conduct research and advise on legal aspects of corporate transactions to the management or relevant business units and Group of Companies.
- Assist in management of Panel of Solicitors to ensure effective legal representation in litigation process, relevant corporate exercise and company projects, including intellectual property rights.
- Manage the Contract Management System to ensure all legal documents / agreements are properly monitored, organized and registered in the system.
- Support the Legal Senior Manager and business units to minimise and manage legal risks prudently.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Legal Senior Manager and Head of Legal Department.
Requirements
Bachelor of Law degree – LL.B (Hons).Minimum of 6 years of working experience in the Legal Department of a Bank or Financial Institution. Candidates from legal practice with corporate or commercial drafting experience will also be considered.Familiarity with regulations / guidelines of Bank Negara Malaysia and the legal and regulatory framework affecting the financial services and fintech sector, consumer financing and credit laws is preferred, including Money Lenders Act, Consumer Protection Act, Hire Purchase Act, etc. Understanding of Islamic Financing scheme would be an added advantage.Legal advisory competency. Good contract drafting and review skills and corporate / commercial acumen.Sound legal knowledge of Malaysian law. Good research and analysis skills.Attention to details and organised.Ability to prioritise work and meet tight deadlines.Proactive with positive attitude and a good team player.Seniority level
