Overview
Principal Engineer - Hypervisors, Backup & UNIX Systems at PayNet (Payments Network Malaysia).
Summary : The designated Automation Engineer provides deep technical expertise and is tasked with the co-planning, co-design, implementation, operations and on-going maintenance of the new Data Center and Campus covering the on-premises virtualization platform, compute, fiber-channel based storage, enterprise backup and the consumption of ancillary Cloud services.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a cross-functional team (network, storage, compute, security) leading the planning, design, implementation and operations of the Future State Architecture (FSA).
- Define the Future State Architecture including compute selection, fiber-channel storage arrays, enterprise backup appliances, physical and logical placement of system elements, and design / implementation of ancillary tools and services (e.g., Jenkins, Spinnaker, Terraform, Vagrant, Postgres + Corosync, Postfix, DHCP, DNS, NTP, Grafana, syslog collectors, among others).
- Plan and execute multi-year phased services migration (e.g., JomPAY, FPX, DuitNow) to the Future State Architecture with minimal downtime from a systems perspective.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies that could enhance agility and support organizational goals.
- Act as deployment lead for the design, installation, operation, service and maintenance of BAU systems across various layers.
- Lead systems integration with external entities when necessary.
- Participate in computer emergency response activities in response to security incidents (e.g., DDoS, malware, internal fraud).
- Develop foundation for automated patch updates across the infrastructure.
- Enhance systems monitoring for capacity, response and service degradation.
- Maintain accurate records of current and historical system settings and the decision-making rationale behind configurations.
- Cultivate best practices, operational discipline and guidelines within the systems team.
- Participate in yearly audit exercises and ensure requirements are adhered to at all times.
Organizational Responsibilities
Participate in other working groups of small projects undertaken by the division on issues related to Systems Architecture & Design.Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience; exceptional self-starters will be considered.RHCE or Linux Professional Institute certification is an added advantage.Experience in the IT banking and telecommunications sector is an added advantage.Technical Qualifications
Advanced knowledge across RedHat Linux and Windows Server OS platforms.Experience architecting a resilient, highly available, low-latency infrastructure on VMware ESXi or RedHat Virtualization (RHV).Programming in at least one language (Python, Ruby, Perl or advanced shell scripting).Experience with automation using Ansible (preferred) / Chef / Puppet for deployment, hardening, software management or patch deployment in a CI / CD fashion.Experience with services and tools such as Active Directory, SMTP, LDAP, DHCP, DNS, Jenkins, Spinnaker, Terraform, Vagrant, Grafana, Apache, Nginx, Postfix, Oracle WebLogic, Prometheus, Elastic Stack, Kibana, JBoss, among others.Experience with performance bottleneck analysis using vmstat, iostat, lsof, sar, collectl, sysblock.Experience with Cloud offerings from AWS and GCP (EC2, S3, Route53, ELB, DBaaS) would be an advantage.Job Details
