Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, organised, and student-centred Guidance Teacher to join the Grade 12 team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and personal development through one-on-one counselling, academic pathway planning, and university application guidance. In addition, the Guidance Teacher will support students with social-emotional concerns and contribute to school-wide well-being initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic counselling to Grade 12 / Pre-University students
- Guide students in course selection and academic planning aligned with their post-secondary goals
- Support students throughout the university application process, including essay writing, documentation, and interview preparation
- Offer counselling and support on social-emotional matters, including stress, motivation, and personal well-being
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of school-wide well-being and mental health initiatives
- Teach one class per day, in a subject area aligned with the teacher’s expertise and school needs
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents / guardians, and staff
- Collaborate with faculty and administrative teams on student support strategies and programming
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Education and appropriate undergraduate degree(s) in one or more teachable subjectsKnowledge of the Canadian (Ontario) curriculum is an assetSecondary School Guidance Counsellor certification or equivalent training is preferredMinimum of 5 years of teaching and / or counselling experience at the secondary / high school levelA Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) is preferredExperience with university admissions processes (Canadian, UK, US, and / or international pathways)Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English (written and spoken)Proficiency in using technology to support counselling and teachingDemonstrated ability to foster a supportive and respectful school environmentBenefits
