About the role
An Electrical Engineer in the System Operation and Maintenance section is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electricity distribution network. The role covers system monitoring, preventive and corrective maintenance, compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and continuous improvement of distribution network performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Operation
- Monitor real-time operation of the distribution system (SCADA, load dispatching, switching operations).
- Perform load flow analysis, demand forecasting, and outage management.
- Coordinate planned shutdowns and system restoration during faults.
- May need to join the standby pool to oversee unforeseen fault events and complaints.
2. System Maintenance
Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance of distribution equipment (switchgear, transformers, protection systems, substations, distribution lines).Troubleshoot electrical faults and analyse root causes to prevent recurrence.Maintain and update technical records, drawings, and maintenance logs.Ensure all maintenance works adhere to safety standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs).3. Safety & Compliance
Enforce electrical safety rules, isolation procedures, and permit-to-work systems.Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments for maintenance activities.Ensure system stability and compliance with grid codes and regulatory requirements.4. Technical Support & Improvement
Provide technical expertise for system expansion, upgrades, and new connections.Optimize system efficiency, reduce technical losses, and improve power quality.Liaise with regulatory bodies, contractors, and equipment suppliers on technical matters.5. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare operation reports, maintenance records, and incident investigation reports.Document equipment performance, failure trends, and recommend improvement plans.Support management in budgeting and resource planning for O&M activities.Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably with Power or Energy specialization).Graduate Engineer registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in electrical system operation, maintenance, or utility environment.Knowledge of power system operation, distribution protection schemes, and electrical safety practices.About us
