The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) Team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the business and customers 24 / 7. We are committed to maintaining the physical infrastructure of AWS, ensuring operational performance in safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.
Role : Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Engineer with experience in critical facilities management. You will focus on engineering operations, risk management and mitigation, planning, corrective and preventive maintenance for critical infrastructure, and vendor management within the AWS Data Center environment. You will oversee day-to-day operational excellence, maintenance of critical infrastructure, on-site supervision of vendors, incident response, and development of facility subject matter expertise.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the site point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- Meet daily hours of operations, on-call requirements, and response during rotations.
- Manage minor and support major planned and unplanned site works for critical infrastructure, understanding risks, mitigation, and approvals within relevant SLAs.
- Oversee on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring work complies with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Assist in establishing performance benchmarks, conduct analysis, and prepare reports on data center facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
- Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for DCEO activities.
- Collaborate with DCO managers (IT), Networking, Logistics, Safety, Security, and other partners to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Establish documentation relevant to technical support of business and facility operations.
- Support and implement projects to increase facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability.
- Support operating partners in resolving infrastructure engineering issues.
A day in the life
Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within service level agreements.Perform rack installs, decommissioning, and facility management.Provide operational readings and KPIs to maintain uptime.Manage on-site contractors and vendors in accordance with practices, procedures, and local legislation.Oversee maintenance and operations of electrical, mechanical, and fire / life safety systems.Work schedule changes may include up to 12-hour shifts and on-call rotations depending on site needs.Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience maintaining electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire systems in a data center or critical facility.Familiarity with service management concepts (Problem and Change).Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant technical field (military / trade school accepted).Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers (e.g., DRUPS, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS, ATS / STS, PDUs, Chillers, AHUs, CRACs).Experience managing vendors / contractors performing construction, maintenance, and upgrades in large-scale critical environments.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for customers.
