As a Senior Tax Consultant you will support the delivery of tax advisory and compliance services to a diverse portfolio of clients. The role involves working closely with senior tax professionals, assisting in providing strategic tax advice, managing client relationships, preparing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with Australian tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in Australian tax law, strong problem‑solving abilities, and a keen attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Tax Advisory and Compliance
Assistance with and preparation of business plans, budget and finance submissions on behalf of clients.
Client Management
Assisting with new client engagements, including initial meetings, proposal documents and follow‑up engagement work;
Assist in the monitoring and delivery of overall client service excellence, including identifying new opportunities from existing and new clients and resolving client concerns or complaints;
Direct client contact, liaison and client relationship management;
Liaison with government bodies including ATO, ASIC and OSR on client matters.
Research and Technical Support
Accounting, taxation and business advisory research and technical advice work for clients.
Collaboration and Teamwork
Assistance with managing total workflow of the firm including weekly workflow meetings, setting deadlines and targets for individual staff, appropriately delegating work and daily monitoring; a
Promoting employee loyalty, satisfaction and firm culture.
Risk Management and Compliance
Management / improvement of work practices and quality control procedures within the firm in accordance with best practice.
Other Duties
Assistance with business and corporate advisory services and special projects including due diligence, research and letters of advice;
Assisting with employee performance evaluations and appraisals;
Participation in seminars, staff and client training.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Taxation, Commerce, or a related field (essential).
Completed or progressing towards completion of the CA / CPA / CTA qualification (desirable).
Experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Australian tax consulting, ideally within a public practice or corporate environment.
Previous experience preparing tax returns for individuals, companies, and trusts is essential.
Experience with tax compliance software (e.g., Xero, HandiTax, BGL) is essential.
Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with tax software is a plus.
A proactive, client‑focused attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow in the field of tax.
