Responsibilities
- To provide and lead the strategic direction for the National School in line with the whole school vision and development plan and as directed by the Campus Principal.
- To contribute to the school Strategic Plan.
- To ensure that the standards of teaching, learning and attainment in all areas of school life within the National School reflect the school’s mission of providing the best of National education.
- Take on teaching responsibilities of at least one National subject. Preferably with someone who has experience in teaching English; Upper Primary is a priority.
- To ensure that the National School is operated in accordance with the policies, guidelines, procedures and approved recommendations of MOE and XCL Education Group.
- To ensure that appropriate priorities and targets for the improvement of pupils’ learning are identified and the necessary resources are clearly allocated.
- To ensure the management, organization and administration of the National School supports the improvement of standards in learning and teaching.
- Manage change within the National School judiciously.
- Inspire stakeholder confidence in the National School.
- Academic and Curriculum
- Promote and maintain an environment within the National School that secures high standards of planning, organisation, teaching, learning, behaviour and achievement.
- Implement the REAL curriculum in a way that is relevant to the needs of the pupils and enables all pupils to achieve.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of learning and achievement of all pupils in the National School.
- Maintain and develop the National School’s extended curriculum and extra-curricular programme in collaboration with the Head of CCA and Sports.
- Maintain and promote effective partnership with National pupils’ parents to support and improve pupils’ achievement and personal development.
- Work closely with the Examination Unit to ensure strict compliance to the examination standard as specified by MOE / School.
- Plan for manpower allocation and prepare the school timetable before the new academic year starts.
- Review and finalise the book list together with teachers before submitting to Campus Principal for approval and dissemination to stakeholders.
- Plan the school academic calendar with the Campus Principal before commencement of the new academic year.
- Staff Management
- Ensure the professional duties of all teachers and teaching assistants within the National School, as defined in the terms and conditions of staff contracts, are fulfilled.
- Plan, allocate, support and evaluate work undertaken by groups, teams, or individuals within the National School, ensuring clear delegation of tasks and devolution of responsibilities.
- Ensure systems are in place for the performance management of National School staff and that their effectiveness is monitored.
- Develop open and honest relationships with all staff providing information, support and objective advice as appropriate.
- Work with the Campus Principal to manage the recruitment of National School staff of the highest caliber.
- Identify and propose training needs of National teachers and take a lead role in coordinating staff training.
- Customer Service
- Provide interface with parents and pupils to ensure satisfaction and success.
- Ensure that parents and pupils are well informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress towards their targets.
- Guide teachers to provide quality teaching service to parents and students.
- Support Marketing Department in promoting National programmes to prospects and other National schools.
- Other dimensions of Job
- Monitor and review the use of resources to ensure the principles of best value are achieved within the National School.
- Manage the school physical environment efficiently and effectively, ensuring the school is a safe, healthy and attractive place for learning.
- Set appropriate priorities for the expenditure of the National budget.
- Support the school’s annual events (e.g., Open Day, Sports Day, Parents’ Day, Teachers’ Day) as required.
- Represent the school at meetings with relevant authorities and establish good rapport with them in the absence of the Campus Principal.
- Ensure compliance with ISO requirements by the National School.
- Attend to the needs of any other ad-hoc events involving the National School.
- Work closely with the Secondary Principal to ensure that expectations, standards, procedures and systems are built on throughout the school and ensure a smooth progression for pupils and staff between the two schools.
- Work closely with the Campus Principal and the Administration Staff on all operational matters related to the smooth running of the National facilities.
- Provide information, objective advice and support to the Campus Principal to enable him / her to meet responsibilities.
- Deputise for the Campus Principal as necessary.
- Other duties as and when required by the school.
Qualifications
At least a Degree in Education or equivalent.5 years of work experience in a similar capacity.In-depth understanding of National / national school capacity.Possess communication, management and supervisory skills.Proficient in English.Strong ability to lead, supervise and motivate a group of teachers.Passionate in driving the core values of the XCL Education Group to all levels and strong desire to ensure high standard of education.Ability to implement strategic plans of the management to ensure success.Ability to communicate effectively with all levels and disseminate instructions and information precisely yet clearly.Pleasant and approachable with friendly disposition especially towards parents and students.Note : This is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the role. The post holder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the level of the role, as reasonably requested and agreed with the Campus Principal.
