Overview

Lifeguard Responsibilities And Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Active surveillance, enforce pool rules, manage headcounts and lane usage.
  • Set up / clear equipment; rotate guard positions to eliminate blind spots.
  • Assist with swimming activities and provide basic guidance to swimmers when needed.
  • Perform rescues; administer First Aid / CPR / AED; activate Emergency Action Plan; complete incident reports promptly.
  • Adhere to the school’s Child Protection Policy; maintain professional boundaries; ensure appropriate ratios by age / activity.
  • Pre-opening / closing checks; ensure rescue equipment readiness.
  • Conduct basic water testing (free chlorine, pH) and log results; escalate variances to Facilities / Pool Technician.
  • Brief students / staff on safety; liaise with PE, CCA, and Boarding.
  • Keep accurate logs (attendance, incidents, chemical readings, equipment).
  • Assist with basic pool maintenance, including monitoring water quality and reporting any issues to the management.
  • Keep certifications current; attend drill refreshers and safeguarding training.
  • Assist with gym-related duties on an ad hoc basis, such as overseeing safe use of equipment and supporting members when required.
  • Monitor and report any equipment faults or safety hazards.
  • You shall perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Administration from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Valid Lifeguard Certification from a recognized body (validity more than 3 years).
  • Strong swimming fitness; able to perform deep-water rescues.
  • Experience supervising children in aquatic settings (school / club / camp) preferred.
  • Professional appearance and disposition.
  • Able to create a positive atmosphere and willingness to take account of diverse views, while accepting responsibility for decisions.
  • High levels of organisation ability and the experience to multi-task.
  • Experience in school systems is vital.
  • Must practice honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Must be proficient in verbal and written skills in English.
  • Have the ability to work smoothly and harmoniously with other members of staff.
  • Have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be pro-active and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as participate within the team.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, possess a mature attitude and a good team player.
