What Role You Will Play In The Team
- As a Process Safety Engineer, you will be part of our exciting and rapidly expanding Kuala Lumpur Process Safety Department working and collaborating on a global scale.
- You will provide engineering leadership in various aspects of Process Safety to our business divisions, with a mission towards providing engineering and risk management solutions for ExxonMobil’s operating facilities around the world, to ensure safe and reliable operations.
- You will be equipped with the required skills and knowledge, and will therefore also be expected to work across geographic restrictions, leveraging on the strength and experience of others within our company, to ensure that we deliver maximum value to our business line partners.

What You Will Do
The position involves aspects of process safety engineering such as explosion effects analysis and facility siting, pressure relief / disposal system adequacy, consequence analysis, dispersion modeling, fire protection, hazard identification (e.g., HAZOP or similar), risk analysis (LOPA, Event Tree Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Availability Target setting), as well as safety in design and management of change evaluations.Collaborate and engage with risk owners within the business lines, and partner with the relevant stakeholders to arrive at sound risk management decisions regarding process safety concerns at their facilities.Lead and implement ExxonMobil and Industry Safety in Design Standards and requirements in change reviews at existing production facilities and greenfield / brownfield projects, in areas such as Equipment overpressure, over‑temperature scenarios, managing reaction hazards & preventive and mitigative safeguards for major accident scenarios.Lead and facilitate Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and execute other project deliverables.Develop and execute quantitative and qualitative risk screenings and assessments.Develop consequence modelling using PHAST and other applicable industry methods.Conduct vapour cloud explosion consequence and risk analysis.Design new or modify fire protection design requirements for different equipment types, including fire & gas mapping.You are expected to be reasonably mobile in this job role and be available to travel to our other facilities around the world as needed.Provide technical leadership and drive cross‑collaboration to enable the above on a global scale.Maintain the highest level of expertise in the technical discipline and grow your career as a leading expert in specific Process Safety Engineering disciplines such as consequence modelling, toxic hazard management, fire protection, safety relief, etc.Promote innovative solutions that maximize value and support global business priorities.Serve as a technical mentor for enhancing team functional skill proficiencies and drive competency development strategy in the Process Safety discipline family.About You and Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related Petroleum Engineering field.Minimum of 8 years of relevant working experience in the petrochemical, oil and gas industry in technical, operations, process design or engineering functions.At least 3 years of work experience in specific Process Safety Engineering job roles.Demonstrated competency and experience in the following areas :Hazard identification, risk analyses and assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZID, Inherent SHE Review, PHAs).
Knowledgeable in industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety (e.g., ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, IEC, etc.) and recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP).Risk scenario development techniques, including various methods of risk analysis.Good working knowledge of engineering software tools such as PHAST, PHA‑Pro, Hysys, Flarenet, FlareSim, Pipenet / AFT is an advantage.Prior experience working within a manufacturing / production facility is preferred.Strong behavioral competencies such as :Engineering curiosity and initiative to capture opportunities and deliver value.
