Engineer - Product Purchasing (Technical Sourcing)

  • Full-time

Bosch has been present in Malaysia since 1923, represented by Robert Bosch Sdn Bhd, with offices located in Selangor and Penang. The company operates in Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology, with three manufacturing plants in Penang producing Car Multimedia, Power Tools, and Automotive Steering systems. In 2017, Malaysia contributed RM 615 million in sales and employed over 2,800 associates.

Job Summary : Core tasks

  • Lead and oversee Purchasing activities within the Product Innovation Framework (PIF), ensuring timely market entry (TTM).
  • Support and execute Purchasing strategies, focusing on quality, cost targets, and the PDP process to meet TTM goals.
  • Act as a primary contact for the PIF team, aligning decisions between Commercial, Supplier Quality, and Material Field Purchasing.
  • Develop sourcing strategies for responsible products within PIF.
  • Coordinate cross-regional cost reduction projects.

    • Responsibilities & Authority :

  • Define and maintain product group purchasing strategies considering TTM.
  • Serve as the main interface among PIF, Value Stream, Global Purchasing, and Business Units.
  • Coordinate regional RPP activities for new products, including creation, implementation, and cross-functional cooperation.
  • Engage early with suppliers to support product innovation and cost targets (PILUM, GENESIS, TOMAS).
  • Support annual price negotiations by identifying new business opportunities.
  • Assist Material Field buyers in achieving target costs and contracting activities.
  • Create cost transparency through benchmarking and support global cost optimization efforts.
  • Ensure achievement of best costs through benchmarking, TCO, RPP before and after SOP.
  • Oversee quality activities related to the product group, such as ISIR, 8D, VQS.
  • Proactively address purchasing topics within PIF.
  • Manage plastic and other mechanical commodities.

    • Collaboration :

    Work with rBU cross-functional teams, Material Field Purchasing, and the Execution Team.

    Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering with at least 5 years of project and procurement management experience. Candidates with a Bachelor's in Commerce and mechanical knowledge will also be considered.
  • Experience with new product development (NPI) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding and tooling is a plus.
  • Result-oriented with a strong focus on achieving targets.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex situations with accountability.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical skills.
  • Motivated, committed, and quick to adapt.
  • Capable of multitasking and handling multiple stakeholder requests simultaneously.
  • Experience in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to bring value from best practices of other companies.
  • Leadership skills without direct authority.
