To support the Maintenance & Security Executive in ensuring that SBIS’s facilities, equipment, and grounds are safe, well‑maintained, and fully functional at all times. The Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, supporting operational readiness for school events, and upholding high standards of safety, hygiene, and safeguarding across the campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all electrical systems, including switchboards, power usage and solar, to ensure all systems are in good operating conditions at all times.
 - Perform daily checks on LV system, ensuring no overloading on the main switch and that incoming voltage is within normal limits.
 - Check and maintain all common area and parking area lighting to ensure proper working condition; repair or replace lights or bulbs indoor or outdoor when needed.
 - Ensure the power supply are all maintained in good working condition.
 - Maintain and execute scheduled maintenance plans without delay and meet the standards, keeping accurate and timely maintenance records.
 - Respond to building emergencies, electrical failures and water interruptions.
 - Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical fault circuits / systems and provide recommendations to minimize re‑occurrence or provide long‑term solutions.
 - Develop and implement emergency procedures and SOPs.
 
Other Responsibilities
Perform routine inspections and scheduled preventive maintenance of school facilities (plumbing, carpentry, tiling, roofing, fixtures, and furniture).Assist in minor electrical repairs and air‑conditioning servicing under supervision.Maintain preventive maintenance checklists (weekly, monthly, termly) and ensure issues are addressed within agreed timeframes.Report faults, damages, and safety hazards promptly to the Maintenance & Security Executive.Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when carrying out work.Support fire safety checks (extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signage) and assist during safety drills.Keep maintenance areas clean, organised, and compliant with 5S and school safety standards.Report near misses, unsafe conditions, or potential hazards immediately.Support pest control, fogging, and sanitation activities as scheduled or requested.Maintain hygiene standards across classrooms, washrooms, and outdoor areas when needed.Record and replenish cleaning and maintenance supplies appropriately.Assist with landscaping, drain clearing, and general upkeep of outdoor areas.Conduct visual checks and minor repairs on playgrounds, walkways, and fences to ensure safety.Ensure proper drainage flow and upkeep of roof gutters, pipes, and irrigation systems.Set up and dismantle furniture, staging, and equipment for examinations, assemblies, and events.Assist teachers and leaders with logistics support before and after major functions.Support delivery handling and minor transportation of equipment within the campus.Use the school’s maintenance reporting system to record, update, and close maintenance requests.Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, materials used, and completed works.Communicate promptly with the Maintenance & Security Executive on job progress and priority tasks.Adhere to SBIS’s safeguarding policies at all times; ensure appropriate conduct when working in areas accessible to students.Report any unsafe or suspicious situations involving students, staff, or visitors.Monitor contractors performing maintenance or repair work.Assist in verifying completion of vendor work and maintain a simple record of spare parts and consumables.Support occasional early, late, or weekend work in preparation for school events or emergencies.Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Maintenance & Security Executive, Maintenance Manager, or School Management.Person Specification
Essential :
Candidate must possess at least a Diploma, Advanced / Higher / Graduate Diploma or equivalent.AO or A1 certificate holder with 2‑3 years working experience in related fields.Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and general repairs.Physically fit, punctual, and able to work independently or in a team.Able to communicate in English and Bahasa Malaysia .Basic computer or mobile literacy (e.g., Google Forms / Sheets).Possession of a valid motorcycle or car driving licence preferred.Willing to work occasionally on weekends or evenings for school events.Why Join Us?
