Overview

The NLC is seeking an experienced Ranger Coordinator for the Wagiman Guwardagun Ranger group based at Lewin Springs, Pine Creek in the Katherine region. The Wagiman Guwardagun Rangers work on Aboriginal Land Trust lands to support Traditional Owners in managing and protecting country. The ranger team covers 130,000 hectares and includes the Wagiman and Upper Daly Aboriginal Land Trusts. The team focuses on fire, freshwater, weed and feral animal management, compliance activities, biodiversity monitoring projects and cultural heritage protection works. The position leads the Wagiman Ranger Group and ensures effective delivery of land and freshwater management activities, working with CFC Program staff to integrate Traditional Owner insights and WH&S standards into land and sea management activities.

The Ranger Coordinator is responsible for supervising, mentoring and developing local rangers to achieve the Wagiman Healthy Country Plan . The role delivers and coordinates monitoring and reporting for the Ranger groups operational service outcomes and performance per operational plans and NLC requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Wagiman Ranger Group, ensuring delivery of land and freshwater management activities.
  • Coordinate and monitor daily operations, reporting, and performance against plans and NLC requirements.
  • Collaborate with CFC Program staff to incorporate Traditional Owner insights and uphold WH&S standards.
  • Mentor and develop local rangers to meet the Wagiman Healthy Country Plan objectives.
  • Delivery of fire management, biodiversity monitoring, weed and feral animal management, and cultural heritage protection works.

What You Will Bring

You will bring strong negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural communication abilities, problem-solving expertise, and experience in dispute resolution and community liaison. Demonstrated experience in asset management and basic equipment maintenance is also required.

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or a relevant field, and / or two (2) years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience managing program WHS and assets in a remote setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading and motivating a small team.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of fire and other land management programs.
