R&D Product Development Specialist (12 Months Contract)
Overview
Development Specialist designs (with support), executes, reports and presents experiment trials, sensory and consumer findings. This role is part of the consumer science team within R&D and interacts with peers in other departments within and outside of R&D, including external tasters and suppliers. At busy times, this role supports other ongoing project activities outside of the immediate team. The role has a hands-on approach, executing internal / external pilot plant trials, plant trials and tasting work for their own projects or to support others, and provides thought leadership while applying academic knowledge to JDE.
Responsibilities
- With team lead / manager guidance, select appropriate sensory discrimination methodology and procedures and implement individual tests or studies as required by test / business objective
- Be aware of data collection software and fluent in conducting basic statistical evaluation and interpreting results for discriminative, descriptive & quantitative tests
- Communicate and discuss test results with business partners, involving the supervisor, and agree next steps
- Plan and execute pilot plant trials / product testing / tastings under the guidance and support of a Specialist
- Analyze results and provide reports to Specialists or Managers in the team
- Operate / maintain simple equipment and facilities. Ensure good manufacturing practices with respect to maintenance and hygiene. Take care of administration and archiving results and writing & updating simple specifications to support projects
- Represent R&D in simple Adapt for Excellence projects
- Support and learn Specialist tasks as appropriate including : defining and leading pilot / plant trials, collecting experimental data, writing technical reports, developing prototypes, completing sensory, chemical, physical and analytical assessments of product, drafting specifications, defining pack functional spec and selecting materials, completing physical lab testing and arranging external testing, drafting technical reports
- Adopt and follow all JDE technical systems and processes
- Support R&D sensory testing
- Write & perform standard operating procedures (SOPs) and suggest adjustments of standardized methods for particular products and / or problems
Qualifications
Education : Academic level degree / Higher degree / Trade qualification in Chemical Engineering / Food Science and Nutrition or related fieldsHiring manager to define – typically entry levelGood verbal, writing and communication skills in English. Fluent in Bahasa Melayu and / or Mandarin is advantageous.Able to taste and describe food / drinkAdditional Information
