Scope

As a fellow, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the next generation of Interior Design / Interior Architecture professionals. Your responsibilities will span across teaching, curriculum development, research and community engagement, aiming to deliver an outstanding educational experience. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about both technology and education, eager to contribute to the academic and professional development of our students. The candidates shall be a member of the staff of the Department of Applied Arts and Design assigned by the KAED and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM. The candidates should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part and parcel of duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM. The candidate is required to attend any meetings related to administrative positions they may hold. This attendance is mandated by appointments made under IIUM or through administrative directives issued by the Rector, Dean, or Head of the Kulliyyah / Centre / Department / Institute / Office / Mahallah.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development : Design and update comprehensive Interior Design / Interior Architecture courses that reflect the latest industry trends and academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence : Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and lab sessions across a variety of Interior Design / Interior Architecture subjects, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and software.
  • Student Assessment : Create and evaluate examinations, assignments, and projects to gauge student knowledge and skills, providing constructive feedback.
  • Research Contribution : Conduct and publish impactful research in the Interior Design / Interior Architecture field and supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Professional Development : Remain current with technological advancements and pedagogical strategies through continued education and active participation in academic communities.
  • Community and Industry Engagement : Collaborate with industry experts to ensure curriculum relevance and foster opportunities for student placements.
  • Mentorship : Offer academic advice and personal mentorship to students, guiding them towards academic and professional success.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Interior Design / Interior Architecture / Architecture
  • Registered Interior Design with LAM (IDr.)
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in Interior Design industries
  • Minimum Competencies

    Applicants can be from the category of compulsory retirees based on IIUM compulsory retirement age from IIUM, other higher learning institutions; or distinguished figures from the industries, civil service or professionals. Malaysian / International applicants are welcome to apply, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment. Prior experience in teaching and research in the higher education sector is an added advantage.

    Other Requirements

    Candidates must possess a strong foundation and knowledge in Interior Design / Interior Architecture. In addition, proficiency or specialization in any of the following areas is highly desirable :

  • Interior Design Professional Practice
  • Building materials and finishes
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • A strong track record of published research and participation in the academic community is highly desirable
  • Language Qualifications

    All candidates must have obtained :

    a. Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).

    b. IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
