Position Description for EHS Manager in the Factory

Position Name : EHS Manager

Department : EHS Department

Direct Supervisor : Factory Manager

Job Overview

This position is primarily responsible for implementing EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) measures within manufacturing facilities. The EHS Manager is required to oversee whether the company complies with Malaysian regulations (such as DOSH, DOE), coordinate waste and chemical management, and lead safety measures in the workplace.

Duties and Work Tasks

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that the factory operations comply with the "Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994", "Factories and Machinery Act 1967" and "Environmental Quality Act 1974", and submit reports to DOSH, DOE, etc.

Specific waste materials and CEPSWAM management

Manage the storage, marking, transfer and disposal of factory waste in accordance with the CEPSWAM standards.

Environmental Monitoring

Monitor the factory's emissions and noise levels, and ensure timely reporting to the DOE.

Chemical waste management

Supervise the safe storage and use of industrial chemical waste products in the production process.

Personal protection and glove monitoring

Track and control the usage of PPE, especially in high-risk areas for the management and supervision of factory waste such as gloves.

Safety planning and risk assessment

Develop factory-specific safety plans, conduct HIRARC risk assessments, and promote preventive measures.

Training and Emergency Response Team

Provide EHS training and drills for production staff, and lead the emergency response team.

Power

Has the right to suspend unsafe operations.

It can issue safety violation reports.

Has the authority to approve the distribution of PPE and the corrective measures.

Work collaboration relationship

Internal coordination relationship :

  • Coordinate with the production, maintenance, and warehouse departments
  • Work in collaboration with the human resources and training teams
  • Work in collaboration with the emergency response team

External coordination relationships :

  • Coordinate with government agencies, such as DOSH, DOE, and the Fire Department (BOMBA)
  • Contact the waste disposal contractor
  • Cooperate with PPE and safety equipment suppliers
  • Qualifications for the position

    Educational background :

  • A diploma or bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Qualification :

  • Obtain the qualification of Safety and Health Officer (SHO) certified by DOSH – mandatory requirement
  • CEPSWAM Certification - It is recommended to have (such as for waste management)
  • Work Experience :

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in EHS or safety-related work in the manufacturing industry
  • Those with experience in handling specific waste materials and preparing DOE reports will be given priority.
  • Knowledge / Skills :

  • Regulatory knowledge : OSHA 1994, FMA 1967, EQA 1974, DOSH & DOE guidelines
  • Technical capabilities : HIRARC, accident investigation, PPE assessment, ERT training
  • Soft skills : communication, coordination, leadership, report writing
  • Digital tools : MS Office, DOE electronic reporting system, security detection application
