What role you will play in the team

As an Offsites and Utilities Engineer, you’ll develop capital projects and provide operating support of oil and gas or petrochemical sites. Utilities is inclusive of steam generation / distribution, water supply / treating, fuel systems, compressed air, power generation, and more. Offsites is inclusive of tankage, pipelines, product movements, flares, etc. You will contribute to generating business value for the company through improvement activities, operational troubleshooting and project support in an open, innovative and collaborative environment with high quality, capital efficient analyses. The role is based in Kuala Lumpur.

What you will do

  • Provide technical support to Operations organization for Utilities or Offsite systems, including high‑impact process troubleshooting.
  • Provide commissioning and start‑up assistance for new or modified facilities.
  • Perform various hydraulic, thermodynamic, and reliability‑related studies in support of the sites.
  • Lead and / or perform optimization studies to identify or evaluate capital or operating cost savings, energy assessments, configuration alternatives, safety facilities requirements, and GHG reduction opportunities.
  • Assist design team in the development of utilities and offsites design specifications; including but not limited to creating balances, calculations, diagrams, and project deliverables.
  • Provide technical stewardship of engineering contractor’s work during front‑end engineering and design (FEED) or detailed engineering to ensure consistency with ExxonMobil methods and guidelines.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff; willingness to grow in Offsites and Utilities technical depth.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related engineering specialty and / or hold other relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in offsites systems (e.g. flare systems, storage facilities, shipping, logistics, docks, pipeline) and / or utilities (steam, fuel, air, nitrogen, cogen, etc), preferably in a manufacturing site.
  • Demonstrated design experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with process simulation and hydraulic tools (AFT, Pipenet or EPANET, Hysys).
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g. API 650, 653 and 2000 for tankage).
  • Willing and able to travel as required including internationally.
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to effectively work independently as well as in a multi‑cultural global team.
