About the Role

You’ll be the

top field leader

for ranger operations at ASARTR—planning and executing threat-led patrols, building team readiness and safety, and turning field information into action through briefings, debriefs, and reporting. The

Ranger Section Lead (2IC)

  • reports to you;

Patrol Leads

report via sections. What You’ll Be Doing

Lead day-to-day ranger operations; set patrol objectives and standards aligned to EMS SOPs and Malaysian law. Plan, task, and supervise anti-poaching / protection patrols and targeted operations (intelligence / threat-led, risk-assessed). Mentor and performance-manage

Section Leads (2IC)

and

Patrol Leads ; run refreshers / drills for fieldcraft and safety. Conduct

briefings / debriefs ; capture lessons and ensure changes to tactics, routes, equipment, and comms. Manage

readiness : rosters, duty schedules, welfare, discipline, safeguarding, and H&S compliance. Oversee

logistics & assets

(4×4 vehicles, radios, GPS, cameras, uniforms, field kits); inventories and servicing. Use

SMART / camera-trap outputs

with analysts to guide weekly / monthly planning and management reviews. Produce clear

operations reports

(outputs, incidents, seizures, arrests, intel notes); support audits / donors as needed. Liaise professionally with agencies, communities, and NGO partners for joint operations and problem-solving. Uphold legal / ethical compliance, incident reporting, evidence handling, and duty of care at all times. What We’re Looking For (Requirements)

Based in / willing to relocate to Jerantut, Pahang , with

rotational deployments to Mat Daling / Pasir Raja . Own transport (car)

  • valid driving licence; frequent travel
  • Jerantut ↔ field bases . 7+ years

    in conservation / field operations or uniformed services, with

    ≥4 years

    leading patrol / protection teams. Proven

    tactical field skills ; excellent fitness for multi-day treks ( 20–25 kg ), river crossings, steep terrain, adverse weather. Strong leadership, coaching, and communication

  • (Bahasa Malaysia with workable English). Knowledge of Malaysia’s conservation / legal landscape;
  • clean record

    and

    high integrity . Operational planning :

    writes taskings / ops orders and risk assessments; runs effective briefings / debriefs. Navigation & comms :

    maps / compass / GPS basics; radio procedure and disciplined field comms. Data-informed :

    uses SMART / patrol outputs to prioritise effort; delivers accurate ops / section reports on time. Computer-literate & organised :

    email / docs / sheets; comfortable with EMS templates / tools. Preferred (Nice to Have)

    Uniformed services

    background (military / police), ideally

    senior NCO–equivalent

    leadership (e.g., Sgt Major / WO). First aid / wilderness first aid; radio / ICS exposure. Experience running

  • rotations / rosters , welfare oversight, and readiness checks. SMART planning familiarity;
  • QGIS

    basics for simple operation / patrol maps. Inter-agency operations with PERHILITAN / Forestry / Police / NGOs; clear incident / donor reporting. Willing to undergo

    background / reference checks

    and relevant medical clearance. What We Offer
