Mechanical Senior Engineer (based in Kulim High Tech Park, Kedah)
As a Mechanical Senior Engineer in our Regional Value Engineering team, you will develop, lead, and participate in regional and enterprise-wide engineering initiatives to enhance product capability and cost performance for global-Watlow. Located at our Manufacturing Operations in Kedah, Malaysia , you will report directly to the Engineering Manager, Malaysia, and play a key role within the cross-functional Value Added (VA) / Value Engineering (VE) team. Your focus will be on identifying, evaluating, and implementing cost-effective mechanical component and system improvements without compromising safety, performance, or compliance. You will collaborate with design, sourcing, quality, and compliance teams to lead mechanical domain activities in all phases of VA / VE .
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead analysis of mechanical components to identify cost, complexity, or redundancy elimination opportunities.
- Redesign parts, assemblies, or interfaces for simplification or material reduction.
- Conduct DFM / A reviews for manufacturability, tooling, and assembly.
- Work with manufacturing engineers to validate new designs through pilots or simulations.
- Assist sourcing in engaging suppliers for alternative materials or forms.
- Provide engineering drawings and models for reengineered components, ensuring version control.
- Perform tolerance stack-up, structural integrity, and thermal analyses as needed.
- Collaborate with quality and compliance teams to update FMEA, control plans, and inspection criteria.
- Review alternative components with suppliers for viability, lead time, and cost.
- Document and communicate risks, benefits, and trade-offs of electrical alternatives.
- Support testing and validation activities as required.
Required Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field8+ years experience in mechanical design, validation, or sustaining engineeringProven success in value engineering, cost reduction, or design optimization projectsExperience in cost-reduction, VA / VE , or material substitution effortsProficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and mechanical simulation (e.g., FEA)Knowledge of GD&T, DFM / DFA principles, and root cause analysisDesired Qualifications and Attributes
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (highly preferred)Familiarity with FMEA, control plans, and PPAP (especially in regulated industries)Experience in a “design for manufacturing” environmentExperience in Value Added Value Engineering (VAVE)Seniority level
