As an EHS Specialist, you will responsible for the development, implementation and management of the Company's Environmental Health and Safety programs for Penang site. This position will coordinate with the Facility Manager and Operations for all safety efforts for all applicable Malaysia entitled “Health and Safety at Work” and other local regulations related to environmental, health, safety and transportation for Penang site. This role will also include support and localization of EHS & ESG / CSR related corporate initiates. The EHS Specialist will report directly to the APAC Regional Corp EHS Senior Manager and dotted line to the General Manager.
Overview
You Will Make an Impact By :
- Working with the project team and contractors to get all required regulatory EHS permits / licenses / certificates for the plant to start-up and operation, including fire fighting permit, environmental permit, etc.
- Provides EHS leadership, direction & influence for site supervision and management to assimilate their EHS responsibilities into daily work processes & procedures (RASIC). Lead / coordinate the continuous improvement of the site safety leadership and culture through Safety Day and other programs.
- Develop and update the site safety policies, standards, procedures and work instructions based on the local EHS laws and regulations and Corporate EHS management system (MEHS) and 10 EHS Golden Rules (working to a recognized frameworks ISO’s; 45001 / 14001)
- Provide technical support and information of key metrics and objectives for EHS in line with the Corporate APAC Regional EHS Snr Manager
- Leads first line supervision and management to implement the Corporate and site level EHS Programs / initiatives including incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action plans and implementation.
- Develop and implement hazard identification and safety risk assessment and management system.
- Performs the site level internal audits and safety walks / safety talk / safety moment with the management team to evaluate the effectiveness of local programs and provides audit action plan follow-up / assistance
- Lead the development and administration of programs to ensure compliance with Malaysia and other local EHS regulations. Carry out annual EHS legal compliance assessment, review and update. Develop and maintain EHS Right to Operate List (permit, approval, license) in MASTER.
- Develop and implement training and orientation matrix / programs / plan as required by EHS programs and monitor training program performance to ensure that all required statutory training is performed (LMS).
- Assists in reviews of major plans and specifications for new operations, chemical uses to ensure that appropriate EHS requirements are considered.
- Work with local managers and supervisors to make sure all EHS related facility, equipment, device, tools, etc. are maintained in the good conditions through regular inspection and testing.
- Work with local managers and supervisors to implement all activities with respect to Corporate and external safety audits and or Insurance audit lead by FM Global, local governmental authorities, Customers, etc.
- Ensure that all departments utilize correct procedures for hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal
- Work as system administrator for the EHS software system MASTER, this would also include first, and second line training as required in conjunction with Corp EHS Super User.
- Develop and implement the site occupational health program, including hazard communication, monitoring and employee health surveillance.
- Develop and implement the site incident emergency response plan, training and drill.
- Coordinate the site EHS budget and investment.

Accredited Safety and Health Officer according to Malaysia Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officer) Order 1997BS Degree preferably in Health & Safety or Environmental Management or within a relative field of qualification with 7-10 years of related experience in the areas of Environmental, Health and SafetyThe development and implementation of compliance programs such as : ISO : 45001 and or ISO : 14001 including worker training (NEBOSH International Certificate desired)A working knowledge of vacuum power generator components and laser safety as best practice.In-depth Knowledge of Malaysia EHS Regulations which also include :Local RegulationsEnvironmental Regulations (permits consent to discharge to atmosphere and sewer)The management of hazardous and universal wastesControl of storm water as requiredOccupational healthSeniority level
