Position Summary
The EHS Manager is responsible for leading all Environment, Health, and Safety initiatives to ensure a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible project site. This role develops and implements the project’s EHS strategy in accordance with regulatory requirements, international standards, and obligations under the Development Agreement. The EHS Manager oversees safety performance, conducts site inspections, manages environmental monitoring (including air, water, and noise), and leads risk prevention activities. By driving a strong safety culture and engaging with all stakeholders, this role ensures safe work practices, incident prevention, and sustainable project execution.
Responsibilities
- Compliance and Regulation : Act as the expert on all local, national, and international EHS laws and regulations that apply to the project. Thoroughly review the Development Agreement to understand and implement all specific EHS requirements and commitments. Prepare and submit all necessary EHS permits, reports, and documentation to regulatory agencies.
- EHS Program Implementation : Create and put into action a comprehensive, project-specific EHS management system and plans. Develop and lead EHS training programs for all project staff, contractors, and subcontractors. Establish clear EHS policies, procedures, and emergency response plans for the site.
- Site Management and Inspections : Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections of the construction site to find and fix any hazards or non-compliance issues. Oversee incident investigations, analyze the root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent them from happening again. Manage environmental monitoring activities, such as air quality, water quality, and noise levels, to make sure they stay within the limits set by the agreement and regulations.
- Stakeholder Communication : Serve as the main point of contact for all EHS-related matters with clients, government agencies, and community representatives. Prepare and present regular EHS performance reports to the project management team and other key stakeholders. Work closely with contractors and subcontractors to ensure they follow all project-specific EHS requirements. Carry out thorough risk assessments to identify potential EHS risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Promote a strong safety culture across the entire project, encouraging everyone to be proactive about safety. Keep up to date with the latest EHS best practices and industry standards to continuously improve project safety and environmental performance.
- Qualifications and Experience : Degree / Diploma in Safety and Health, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or other related discipline. Possess SHO certificate and passed NIOSH SHO examination and registered with DOSH as Safety & Health Officer. At least 10 years of working experience in construction project sites is required for this position. Knowledge and experience on semiconductor projects / semiconductor factory environment of 3-5 years is an added advantage. Familiar with EH&S legal requirements and knowledge. Good interpersonal, leadership, communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Computer literate and familiar with MS Office. Demonstrate fluency in English, both written and spoken. Must be willing to work in Kuala Lumpur / Melaka / Penang.
