Job Description
The Senior Cost Engineer responsible for managing and controlling the costs associated with a project, ensuring that the project is completed within its approved budget. They use various techniques to monitor project costs, estimate future costs, and provide recommendations to help manage costs effectively throughout the project's lifecycle.
Job Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation : develop comprehensive cost projections for projects, factoring in materials, labour, equipment, and other associated costs.
- Budget Planning : create and maintain detailed financial plans that align with the project’s scope, timeline, and objectives.
- Cost Monitoring & Control : continuously monitor actual expenditures against the budget, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Financial Reporting : generate and present regular cost performance reports and forecasts to project stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Change Control : assess the financial implications of scope or specification changes, ensuring all modifications are documented and approved accordingly.
- Risk Management : perform cost-related risk assessments and recommend strategies to mitigate potential financial risks.
- Vendor & Contractor Coordination : collaborate with suppliers and contractors to manage pricing, monitor spending, and maintain cost efficiency.
- Data Evaluation : analyze financial data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Performance Tracking : utilize earned value management (EVM) techniques to evaluate project performance in terms of cost, schedule, and scope.
Job Requirements
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.Experience : Minimum of 6-8 years in cost engineering, project controls, or a related field.Knowledge of Cost Estimating Software : Familiarity with software like Primavera, SAP, or Microsoft Project.Analytical Skills : Strong ability to analyze data, interpret financial information, and make informed decisions.Attention to Detail : Precision in managing financial data and recognizing discrepancies.Communication Skills : Ability to clearly present complex cost-related information to various stakeholders.Problem-solving : Capable of addressing cost-related issues efficiently and finding cost-effective solutions.Seniority level
