Overview

Instrument & Control Design Engineer role at Jacobs. The purpose is to lead and manage the Power Generation team within Malaysia and to achieve the objectives of the Power business. Primary focus is on people and operational management duties as well as supporting proposals and sales activities. For projects of every scale, Jacobs provides design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and maintenance services that support a facility's entire life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical schematics for instruments, controls, electrical devices and pumps and motors.
  • Prepare engineering designs, specifications, and technical recommendations necessary to support procurement and construction activities under the direction of the Lead I&C engineer.
  • Support P&ID development; help maintain the P&IDs through the course of each project phase.
  • Provide guidance and support to the client’s technical team during testing and commissioning (C&I engineers, DCS specialists, Electrical engineers).
  • Act as Owner’s Engineer for C&I team.
  • Support technical bid evaluations and interface with suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications; review vendor data to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Instrumentation database project execution and related activities.
  • Review and purchase of I&C equipment and systems.
  • 3-D design experience for I&C equipment and installation support.

Qualifications

  • Recognized Bachelor's electrical degree or technical field; working towards PE.
  • At least 6 years of design experience; instrument data sheet development.
  • Understanding of GMP lifecycle documentation (URS, FS, detailed design packages) and strong knowledge of DCS and PLC systems with AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Experience in design of control systems, networks, control panels, wiring diagrams, and related control equipment for process automation; ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to develop project documentation (scope of work, functional / technical requirements, instrumentation data sheets, construction specifications, control strategy).
  • Knowledge of instrumentation-related codes, standards, and regulations (ISA, NEC, GAMP, API, ISO, IEC).
  • Solid technical background across all areas of instrumentation and control.
