A major marine and freshwater aquarium featuring a vast array of aquatic life and a long underwater tunnel.

About the role

As the Head, Curatorial, you will be the driving force behind the design, care, and presentation of our marine and freshwater exhibits. This is not just a management role — it is a leadership position at the heart of a RM50 million transformation project that will redefine the visitor experience and elevate our standing as one of Southeast Asia’s leading aquaria.

You will oversee a diverse team of aquarists, curators, and technical specialists, ensuring that every exhibit meets the highest standards of animal welfare, educational value, and visual impact. Your expertise will guide decisions on species acquisition, exhibit upgrades, research partnerships, and conservation initiatives, directly shaping the future for the next generation of visitors and marine life advocates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the management of all marine and freshwater exhibits, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, habitat design, and presentation.
  • Plan, develop, and implement curatorial strategies that align with transformation and expansion goals.
  • Direct and supervise curatorial, aquarist, and husbandry teams, fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant local and international animal care standards and environmental regulations.
  • Drive research, conservation, and educational initiatives in collaboration with academic institutions and conservation bodies.
  • Work closely with the project team on exhibit upgrades, species acquisition, and facility enhancements during the 2025–2027 redevelopment.
  • Manage curatorial budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocations effectively.
  • Represent in professional forums, conferences, and media engagements related to marine conservation and education.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Marine Biology, Aquatic Science, Zoology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in aquarium, zoological, or marine park management, with at least 3 years in a senior curatorial leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of aquatic species husbandry, life support systems, exhibit design, and conservation practices.
  • Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing large-scale exhibit operations or projects.
  • Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and the scientific community.
