Manager, Technical Engineering
Job Summary
This role oversees Plant activities within Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance, aiming to advance the company's objectives towards operational excellence. It holds responsibility for the overall effectiveness of the operations organization, its resources, and the manufacturing and quality systems. Leading a team of professionals, mentoring direct reports, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders are integral aspects of the position.
Key responsibilities include strategic planning, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing manufacturing and quality programs / systems, as well as plant-level methodologies relevant to product / process quality and plant operations. Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations is crucial, alongside driving continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages department financial, SQDC and SMART goals for Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance.
- Provide technical direction and business mentorship to manufacturing engineering. Closely work with Plant Operations team for the process improvements, optimization and drive lean techniques to improve plant efficiencies.
- Ensures quality system policies and procedures are effective and being followed to maintain ISO certification. Assures management that quality levels on outgoing products and purchased parts are acceptable, takes corrective actions where necessary and provides reports as necessary.
- Interacts with customers, dealers, and suppliers, to review specific quality opportunities, rectify field complaints, and conduct reviews of new and existing products in the field. Supports Manufacturing, and Product Engineering on interdepartmental product / process opportunities and initiate corrective action where necessary. Lead to resolve product / process issues.
- Ensure operations are safe, quality is assured, volume is met, and equipment performs efficiently.
- Support to execute the actions as per the methodology and coordinate with team for any changes.
- Facilitates / supports plant Business Plan. Leads / supports task force for process improvement initiatives.
- Serve as key members of the Plant Leadership team, provide guidance, and communicate effectively and collaborate with other leaders in the plant, in the region and globally.
- Act as single point of contact for local, regional, or global projects regarding industrial engineering.
- Interact with PD&L team to support a flawless execution of new standard products introduction.
- Collaborate in the designing, planning and execution of the plant operation strategy.
- Identify, lead, coordinate and implement innovation and automation projects.
- Following lean principles and continuous improvement approach, set up best-in-class equipment layout and flow, considering process, materials, and information.
- Generate and participate actively in the generation and execution of cost reduction, sustainability, and energy projects.
- Proactively develop and maintain a team of high-performing engineers that provide support and service to the plant. Identify and create methods for improving team performance and the plant’s quality and profitability.
- Guide, lead, and coach each member of his team according to the Impact Coaching approach. Mentors the Engineers / direct report to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, performances reviews completed, employees developed, development plans are in place, records maintained, and necessary actions are taken to ensure an effective staff
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in industrial, mechanical engineering or similar required. Advanced technical degree is a plus.Extensive experience in Quality Assurance or related fields; experience in Mfg. Engineering.More than 8 years’ engineering experience within a manufacturing environment, at managerial level.Business proficient English language skills.Advanced level of computer skills including CAD exposure.Lean Six Sigma certification will be added advantageCompetencies & Skills
Excellent Business AcumenGet in-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and production concepts.Proven project management and leadership ability.Data driven and result-oriented mindset.Prioritization and handling high-pressure situations.Extensive experience managing continuous improvement and lean manufacturing tools (certified in a solving problem method is preferred).Able to design and implement control procedures for critical processes in Quality and at Plant Operations.In depth knowledge and understanding of Quality Management SystemWell verse in Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving tools.Excellent interpersonal skills required to support working with people at various levels both within Steelcase and external parties.About Steelcase. . .
