Purpose of Roles

As an EAL Teacher, you will play a critical role in shaping the English language learning journey of students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. You will design and deliver engaging, high-quality English programmes tailored to meet individual learning needs, helping students build confidence and competence in their language skills.

Your work will include closely monitoring students’ progress, providing personalised feedback, and supporting them in becoming independent, successful English language learners. Collaboration is key; you will engage with families to keep them informed and involved in their child’s learning journey, ensuring a strong partnership between school and our parent community.

ISP Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibility 1 : New to English Language curriculum and delivery

Design and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to complete beginners in English.

Utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Organise language immersion activities to enhance learning experiences outside the classroom.

Stay updated on best practices in EAL instruction and continuously seek professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibility 2 : Progress of Students in their English Language Level

Assess student progress throughongoing assessment in lessons.

Design and complete summative assessment providing reports and recommendations to move out of theprogramme.

Provide constructive feedback to support their language development.

Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding progress and needs.

Key Responsibility 3 : Pastoral Care and Wellbeing of the students on theprogramme

Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation and collaboration.

Communicate with parents about safeguarding and pastoral issues using the school processes and designated safeguarding lead.

Uphold the highest standards of child protection and safeguarding.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field.

TEFL, TESOL, CELTA certification or equivalent English language qualification (minimum).

At least three years of recent, relevant teaching experience.

Proven experience teaching English to beginners with experience in teaching students of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and best practices in EAL instruction.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to create a safe and welcoming learning environment.
