Overview
Head of Primary English at International Schools Partnership Limited. This senior leadership role supports the Assistant Head of Primary, the Head of Primary, and the Campus Principal in running the school. The Head of Department (HoD) is accountable for the department’s academic and pastoral values, strategy and performance, contributing to the strategic direction and development of a forward‑looking school with a culture of high expectations.
Responsibilities
- Raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the curriculum area and monitor and support pupil progress.
- Be accountable for pupil progress and development within the department.
- Develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
- Ensure the provision of a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum in line with school and agency policy.
- Lead, manage and develop the department academically and pastorally, supporting whole‑school development plans.
- Manage staff in accordance with school policies, including planning, assessment, reporting and appraisal.
- Be responsible for the welfare of children in the department.
- Develop and review department specifications, resources, marking policies, assessment and learning strategies.
- Oversee day‑to‑day department management and monitor student progress academically and pastorally.
- Implement school policies and procedures effectively and support the implementation of annual school priorities.
- Ensure planning, curriculum delivery, team development and quality assurance meet department and school KPIs.
- Act as line manager for staff, support induction, promote teamwork, and manage CPD.
- Conduct learning walks, share good practice, contribute to the department review process and instigate revision strategies.
- Organise exams, use assessment information to adapt learning strategies, and manage the department’s management information system.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students and staff, running parent evenings and school events.
- Develop pastoral systems, enforce school rules, and plan pastoral trips and assemblies.
- Show leadership qualities : vision, innovation, communication, problem‑solving, delegation and commitment to professional development.
- Undertake any reasonable duty from time to time as required by senior leadership.
Qualifications
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.Relevant bachelor’s degree in education or a PGDE / PGCE; NPQH or a postgraduate qualification in education / leadership is desirable.Minimum of three (3) years of proven leadership and management experience in a school setting.Successful teaching experience as indicated by references.Involvement in school self‑evaluation and development planning.Demonstrable experience of line management and staff development.Data analysis skills and the ability to set targets and identify weaknesses.Understanding of high‑quality teaching based on evidence and the ability to model and support improvement.Effective communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to build working relationships.Fluency in written and spoken English.Commitments
