Determines and maintains standards of clerical and nursing supplies for the unit.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Understands the service organization structure.
Informs the Nurse-In-Charge or Unit Manager when changes occur in circumstances which affect standards of care.
Attends meetings held by the services to discuss issues and matters pertaining to the operation of the service.
Answers phone calls and relays messages.
Updates computer information : Ensures patients’ administration and discharges are up-to-date and accurate information regarding patients is entered.
Works with other departments in developing patient schedules and maintains effective communication.
Admission of patients : Gets the room ready and communicates with admissions for the new patient, maintains bed census, notifies staff and doctors concerned with the new admission, checks patient’s charts for pertinent information, keeps patient’s charts in order, maintains patient’s register book.
Charges and transfers patients : Checks patient’s chart and takes care of all clerical implications concerning patient’s discharge from hospital and / or transfer to other services, informs patient re-appointment, makes arrangements for the patient to be accompanied if necessary, and makes arrangements for ambulance service if required by patients.
Maintains inventory of linen, equipment, and supplies.
EDUCATION :
Relevant educational background or training in clerical or nursing support roles.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES :
Experience as a clerk or typist, preferably in a hospital environment.
Experience with public contact and interpersonal relationships is advantageous.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES :
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED :
Ability to converse fluently and write in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES :
Pleasant personality with tactful communication skills for dealing with visitors and others.
Ability to use judgment and be creative in work.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
