Role
Project Manager (Ref.No. R ) at our location in Kuala Lumpur
Responsibilities
- Serve as the prime customer interface for the services and spare parts contract.
- Ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery of the project in accordance with contractual, safety, and quality obligations.
- Lead the Project Core Team, defining project priorities and managing team workload in line with the overall project schedule.
- Coordinate and follow up on actions with internal and external stakeholders, including off-shore / on-shore teams, client representatives, operator staff, and suppliers.
- Interface with Hitachi Rail sites globally (e.g., Singapore, Canada), ensuring timely communication of key technical, safety, and operational updates.
- Ensure compliance with Hitachi Rail’s Project Management processes, methods, and tools.
- Deliver and maintain project KPIs, including turnaround time for repairs, spare parts support, quality assurance, and technical support.
- Define and monitor project quality metrics and ensure that lessons learned are documented and acted upon.
- Manage the allocated project budget and provide regular financial updates.
- Ensure EHS standards are upheld and that site activities are preceded by hazard identification and risk assessments.
- Forecast and manage resource needs, ensuring sufficient capacity for successful delivery.
- Lead internal and external Monthly Project Reviews (MPRs).
- Support the Key Account Manager in preparing and negotiating variation orders, claims, and customer acceptances.
- Define and regularly update the project risk register.
- Lead the mobilisation phase, including front-office set-up and ramp-up of operations.
- Conduct a comprehensive review of current maintenance processes and support operator capability building to align with Hitachi Rail best practices.
- Provide recommendations to improve operator performance and resolve complex operational issues, including intermittent or no-fault-found (NFF) failures.
- Act as the operational interface with the rail operator, ensuring seamless coordination of daily activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in EngineeringPMI / IPMA Certification is an added advantageSound understanding of project management principles and their application in complex project environmentsDegree qualification in Engineering or related disciplineKnowledge of Quality, Safety and Environmental Management concepts and principlesStrong command of spoken and written English and ability to engage in detailed technical discussionsGood knowledge in services / maintenanceAbility to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to guide, influence and convince others, in an international and diverse organizationStrong experience in planning and deployment, to manage direct and indirect teamsPMI Certified is an added valueProven experience in project management execution within complex rail or infrastructure environmentsSolid understanding of project management principles and their practical applicationStrong background in signalling system design, maintenance, and service operationsDemonstrated expertise in planning and deployment, with the ability to manage both direct and indirect teamsEffective communicator with excellent spoken and written EnglishSkilled in stakeholder management, with ability to guide, influence, and align cross-functional and international teamsFamiliar with rail industry standards, quality, safety, and environmental management principlesGood knowledge of services and maintenance operations, particularly in a rail contextExperience coordinating across multi-national teams and business functions in a fast-paced, diverse environmentStrong leadership, resilience, and ability to work under pressureOpen-minded, collaborative, and comfortable in diverse, fast-paced environmentsStrong communication and interpersonal skills to influence stakeholdersProactive and autonomous; able to drive priorities with urgencyOur Benefits
