At Tremco CPG Malaysia , we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Colour Chemist to take charge of the formulation, development, and optimization of color systems tailored for the construction chemical industry. This is a key role where your expertise will directly influence product performance, quality, and market success across the APAC region.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and fine‑tune color formulations for flooring and coating systems, ensuring consistency and long‑term durability.

Select and work with pigments, additives, and binders to achieve specific color properties, including opacity, lightfastness, and chemical resistance.

Color Matching & Quality Assurance

Perform precise manual and automated color matching to meet customer and industry specifications.

Adjust formulations to account for raw material variations and environmental or production‑related factors.

Conduct rigorous testing on gloss, adhesion, and color stability under various conditions (UV, humidity, temperature).

Establish and enforce QC standards for production batches.

Raw Material Evaluation & Regulatory Compliance

Evaluate new pigments and raw materials for performance compatibility.

Work with suppliers to assess new materials and ensure compliance with regional and global regulations, including VOC content and environmental safety.

Production & Process Optimization

Support the scale‑up of lab formulations to full‑scale manufacturing.

Troubleshoot production challenges such as pigment dispersion or application defects and implement effective solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate with R&D, procurement, marketing, sales, and technical service teams to support product development, market trends, and customer‑specific needs.

Provide technical expertise to resolve customer complaints related to color.

Maintain all formulation documentation and SOPs in compliance with ISO standards (including LN and Product Vision systems).

Mentor and train junior chemists in color matching, formulation, and equipment use.

Lead innovation initiatives to develop sustainable, market‑driven color solutions.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or related field.

5–7+ years of hands‑on experience in color chemistry, ideally within flooring and / or coating applications.

Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia (spoken and written).

Deep knowledge of pigment systems, color matching techniques, and resin‑based formulations.

Skilled with color measurement tools (e.g., spectrophotometers, colorimeters) and color matching software.

Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, and other relevant industry standards.

Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.

Strong project management and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross‑functional teams.
