About Muara
Muara Arts is a modern and contemporary art centre with more than 1,000 square metres of gallery space, housed within heritage, pre-war shop lots in Kuala Lumpur’s historic core. Focusing on the art of Southeast Asia, Muara will feature special exhibitions, projects and collection displays. Scheduled to officially open in H1 2026, it is the first phase of a larger revitalisation project in Medan Pasar and the broader KL heritage zone, establishing a vibrant cultural hub and setting the stage for future additions.
Role Overview :
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator (or Executive) plays a key role in coordinating Muara’s communications campaigns and projects, across marketing and media relations, ensuring branding to build brand affinity and build audiences locally and internationally.
Reports to : General Manager
Key Responsibilities :
Communications
Coordinates media relations and PR, including the development of media materials, drafting and copyediting press releases, compilation of media kits and images, and working with external communications agencies as necessary.
Organises press conferences and other media events.
Pitches stories to editors and journalists.
Oversees media monitoring, assisting with the compilation of weekly and exhibition media coverage reports.
Managing media requests and submitting of event listings.
Marketing
Writes and updates copy for Muara’s website and social media platforms.
Works with exhibitions team and external stakeholders to secure image rights for press, marketing, publications and merchandise.
Coordinates production of printed marketing materials.
Coordinates e-marketing and digital marketing campaigns, including e-newsletters, social media content marketing and advertising
Monitors Muara’s social media channels and wider trends and developments in the cultural marketing landscape.
Content Development and Production
Works with the General Manager and Exhibition and Events colleagues to plan and deliver content.
Coordinates content production for marketing and social media campaigns, including drafting briefs and managing videographers and other content creators.
Other
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure campaign materials and content are delivered in line with project deadlines.
Works with the finance team to update and monitor budgets and process invoices.
Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by Founders or Senior Management Team.
Role Requirements
Good working knowledge of social media channels and their respective creation suites
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Content Management Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Attention to detail, creative thinking, and ability to problem solve.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Public Relations, Communications or Marketing, preferably for the Arts sector.
Degree in Communications, Arts or Humanities or a related qualification
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with experience in crafting media releases and organising media events
Effective time management and organisational skills
Familiarity with video production for social media is advantageous.
