Job Objectives :
To ensure that products meet stringent reliability standards throughout their lifecycle. This role involves planning and executing reliability tests, analyzing failure modes, conducting root cause analysis, and collaborating closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to drive continuous product improvement and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Execute product-level qualification and reliability testing programs in compliance with applicable industry standards, company internal and external customer specifications, and requirements.
Execute reliability evaluation and / or qualification plan, which will include conducting reliability tests, analyze reliability data, presenting data, and writing up technical reports.
Participate in Design of Experiments, troubleshooting, and drive for solution for reliability test failures.
Interface with Design, Test, Fab, Assembly / Packaging, assembly vendors, customers.
Conduct special reliability study to obtain new technology reliability information. Develop short-term and long-term roadmaps for continuous improvement in component selection, design and analysis capability to ensure products have industry-leading Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF).
Perform simulations and design analysis throughout the Development Life Cycle including FEA, Thermal and Vibration.
Drive the integration of reliability principles throughout the Development Life Cycle.
Conduct reliability investigations to identify deficiencies in existing mission and support system and / or to optimize asset reliability, availability, maintainability and safety.
Understand and, where necessary, develop and maintain reliability engineering processes and procedures.
Perform a variety of modelling and analysis that relates to the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety of systems. This includes Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centre Maintenance (RCM).
Experience performing board level reliability testing including Mechanical Stress Tests, Shock / Drop / Vibration Testing, Environmental Testing, etc.
Provide technical support on Failure Analysis analytical techniques (e.g. Optical Microscopy, X-Ray, CSAM, SEM / EDS, FTIR, XPS etc.).
Develop and implement reliability test plans and qualification protocols aligned with industry standards (e.g., JEDEC, AEC-Q100).
Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations on product failures from qualification testing, field returns, or customer feedback.
Collaborate with design engineering to integrate Design for Reliability (DfR) principles during product development.
Lead accelerated life testing (ALT), environmental stress screening (ESS), and other reliability validation activities.
Monitor product reliability metrics (failure rates, MTBF, DPPM) and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring reliability requirements are met before mass production.
Coordinate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify their effectiveness.
Work with cross-functional teams including Quality, Manufacturing, and Customer Support to resolve reliability issues.
Maintain documentation of reliability procedures, test results, and compliance records.
Ensure products comply with relevant reliability standards
Authorities :
Authority to design, approve, and modify product reliability test plans and qualification protocols.
Decide which reliability tests (e.g., HALT, HASS, ALT) are necessary based on product risk assessment.
Approve test methods, pass / fail criteria, and test samples.
Lead and coordinate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for product failures in qualification or field.
Authority to request cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, quality) to participate in failure investigations.
Recommend and approve Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) based on RCA findings.
Provide authoritative input during product design and development phases to ensure reliability targets are met.
Influence design changes or material selections based on reliability risk assessments.
Authority to recommend design modifications to mitigate potential failure modes.
Authority to approve or reject products based on reliability qualification results before mass production release.
May hold final sign-off on reliability-related criteria in New Product Introduction (NPI) or product launch processes.
Qualifications :
Minimum Education Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience
Typically 3 to 7 years of experience in reliability engineering or related roles within product development, testing, or quality assurance.
Experience working with cross-functional teams such as design, manufacturing, quality, and field support.
Experience in semiconductor, electronics, automotive, aerospace, or consumer products industries is highly preferred.
Familiarity with product lifecycle management and New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
Hands-on experience in planning and executing reliability tests such as HALT / HASS, thermal cycling, vibration, environmental stress screening, and accelerated life testing.
Proven experience with failure analysis techniques and root cause analysis (RCA).
Experience using statistical and reliability analysis tools (e.g., Weibull analysis, Minitab, JMP).
Specific Knowledge / Skills
Ability to use fundamental failure analysis methodology to derive a root cause of failure.
Knowledge of failure modes and statistical life data analysis using curve fitting and distributions models.
Knowledge of industry test Standards (JEDEC, ASTM, IEEE).
Application of DOE (Design of Experiments).
Application of FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
Development of DFQR and DFT methodologies and BKMs.
