Your impact We are seeking a

Senior Consultant – Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) to be based in JB, Malaysia,

for a duration of 24 months.

The role requires domain expertise in transit ticketing systems and the need to provide AFC support on urban rail and metro projects in Asia, providing technical oversight, strategic guidance, and stakeholder coordination. The successful candidate will act as a lead engineer on assigned projects, supporting the delivery of AFC systems from concept through to commissioning. This includes working closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure high-quality outcomes aligned with project goals and industry best practices. This role requires the successful candidate to : provide subject matter expertise in AFC systems across multiple projects, including smart ticketing, contactless payment, and backend clearing systems. contribute to feasibility studies, concept designs, procurement support, and strategic advisory services related to fare collection systems. act as Works Package Manager for AFC projects, supporting project teams with the review and approval of technical deliverables including design submissions, interface control documents, test plans, and system integration strategies. facilitate workshops and technical discussions with clients, operators, technology vendors, and other stakeholders. Here's what you'll need The successful candidate is required to hold the following qualifications and accreditations : With a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or related field registered with Board of Engineers, Malaysia As a key member of the team, you will be expected to : have 10+ years of experience in rail or metro projects, with at least 3 years in AFC or ticketing systems. have proven experience managing contractors and technical deliverables. be familiar with AFC technologies such as smart card systems, QR code readers, contactless payment, and backend clearing systems. have a strong understanding of system integration and interface management. be skilled in oral and written communication be a team player and be flexible to the needs of the project; be willing to travel to meet project needs must have valid work authorization to work in Malaysia Please note : If you are being represented by a recruitment agency you will not be considered, to be considered you will need to apply directly to Jacobs.
