Electrical Engineer - Manufacturing
Electrical Engineer – Manufacturing at Wärtsilä Energy Storage. The role is part of the Manufacturing Engineering team and focuses on the design, development, assembly and testing of electrical systems and components for energy storage products. The engineer works closely with cross‑functional teams to meet quality standards and performance requirements, and is required to work on site at the factory in Penang, Malaysia Monday to Friday.
What will you be doing?
- Provide day‑to‑day assembly / test support for electrical components of energy storage products (PLCs, breakers, fuses, relays, connectors, cables, etc.).
- Provide product maintenance support and source alternative electrical components.
- Work independently with vendors and design team to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes and implement and validate changes.
- Support cost reduction efforts and identify new cost‑take‑out ideas. Review electrical schematics, single line diagrams, field wiring diagrams, wire‑lists in Eplan and BOMs for energy storage systems following UL508A and IEC61439‑1 / 2 standards.
- Define electrical assembly / test issues and risks to the product team and support solution implementation.
- Review engineering change requests generated by the change management team.
- Provide troubleshooting support to the manufacturing floor, evaluate vendor capability to manufacture products and support ramp‑up targets.
- Review product design and confirm manufacturability with product development and factory personnel.
- Lead Design for Assembly & Test analysis and drive solutions. Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and maintain FAT procedures for electrical engineering.
- Collaborate within a team environment and lead opportunities to develop optimal solutions for product development programs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics.10+ years of electrical assembly / test experience with focus on electrical engineering, troubleshooting, testing power systems and control panels or switch gears.Able to create and review electrical schematics, single line diagrams and field wiring diagrams.Able to write component specifications and understand component datasheets.Working knowledge of industrial control philosophies and communication protocols.Experience with electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) and basic knowledge of Eplan.Experience with PDM (e.g., PTC Windchill, Autodesk Vault) or equivalent.Problem‑solving and innovative mindset.Strong communication skills and team‑player attitude.Willing to travel up to 20% of the time for training or meetings.Why you and us
