The Head of Academic Operations ensures the smooth functioning of the school’s academic engine. This role oversees timetabling, teacher allocation, and academic scheduling, while supporting recruitment, induction, and coordination of academic staff. It is highly operational, ensuring resources, time, and staffing are optimised to support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning. Key Responsibilities Academic Timetabling & Teacher Allocation Lead the development of efficient and balanced timetables for lessons, examinations, and school events. Plan, allocate and review timetables to ensure that it enables the best quality teaching and learning for lessons, examinations, and school events. Allocate and adjust the timetable for teachers across classes and subjects, ensuring workload equity and alignment with expertise. Flexible and able to adjust the timetable to accommodate new staff / changes in staffing or to accommodate school events. Allocate rooms for sets and subject options to ensure efficient use of space. Propose adjustments to timetables during school events or staff absences. Oversee the Timetable Coordinator in maintaining accurate and responsive scheduling. Staffing & Academic Operations Collaborate with leadership in the recruitment and induction of academic staff. Provide orientation on timetabling, assessment procedures, and academic expectations for new teachers. Support HODs in ensuring optimal use of teaching staff and resources. Coordinate cover arrangements and maintain operational continuity during teacher absences. Academic Administration & Events Organise and manage key academic scheduling to support school-wide initiatives such as Study Camps, Parent-Teacher Meetings, writing workshops, and awards ceremonies ensuring excellence in the classroom environment. Coordinate with the Deputy Principal of Academics & Teacher Affairs on major academic events. Ensure policies and systems for academic operations are consistently applied. Communication & Reporting Provide regular updates to the Principal on timetabling, staff allocation, and operational matters. Highlight operational challenges and propose solutions to maintain efficiency. Maintain secure records of staff data in line with school policies. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s in Education or relevant field. Significant experience in academic administration, operations, or leadership. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
