Overview

As a Junior PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you will be part of a growing international team based in Kuala Lumpur, primarily supporting PostgreSQL PaaS subscriptions on Google Cloud and on Azure Cloud. We are seeking candidates with a wide range of expertise and skills in PostgreSQL PaaS cloud database support such as day-to-day administration, performance tuning, monitoring, backup / restore and SQL programming know-how.

Responsibilities

  • Database Administration support with main focus PostgreSQL databases on Google Cloud or Azure Cloud.
  • Database Maintenance, housekeeping, troubleshooting.
  • Identify and resolve database performance issues, including tuning SQL queries, optimizing indexing, and implementing necessary database changes.
  • Incident, problem and change management of database-related incidents and problems, in collaboration with other technical teams.
  • Provide operational support, including capacity planning, system performance analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to database administration procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Installation, configuration and lifecycle migrations / upgrades and patch management.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and proactive management of database systems to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Support database backup and recovery activities, ensuring appropriate backup strategies and disaster recovery plans are in place.
  • SQL (PL / SQL) database programming.
  • UNIX, PHP, Python shell scripting.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule to ensure 24 / 7 availability and response to critical incidents.
  • Implement and maintain PostgreSQL disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

Qualifications / Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration with basic skills on Google or Azure Cloud.
  • Basic skills in supporting Cloud PaaS subscriptions.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google or Azure).
  • PostgreSQL Administration, backup / recovery and monitoring.
  • Problem analysis resolution and error debugging including skills in raising support requests with vendors.
  • Database performance tuning (configuration related and application code tuning).
  • Database installation and configuration including patching.
  • Proficient in PostgreSQL high availability solutions.
  • Backup and recovery, cloning and duplication.
  • Data transfer / extract features for PostgreSQL.
  • Space management analysis and object reorganization.
  • Database patching and migrations.
  • Database user management (authorisation and authentication).
  • Analysis of database performance reports.
  • Basic UNIX shell scripting, PHP or Python programming skills.
  • Basic SQL database programming skills.
  • Knowledge of Cloud key rotation concepts and network traffic encryption.

    • Additional preferred skills

  • Knowledge of another database technology : Oracle, Cassandra, Redis Cache is a plus.
  • Experience in software methodology, processes and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge in IT security.
  • Profound interest in new technologies and self-motivated troubleshooting.
