Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah / Centre / Department to which he is assigned by IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM. The officer should undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part of the duties of an academic staff member of IIUM. The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he may be appointed by the IIUM Constitution, statutes or acts, or administrative actions. The officer is expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community and to advise and guide students in relation to character, behavior and moral conduct. In essence, the role is of a teacher, scholar, and moral educator.

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching TESL / TESOL / English Language Studies / Multicultural Education / Literacy Studies to students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in Arabic / English.
• Working harmoniously with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials.
• Developing curricula and course material for use across platforms in line with IIUM’s SAF and EXCEL frameworks.
• Collaborating with other academics to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
• Participating in training opportunities and institutional initiatives.
• Providing support to students and colleagues.
• Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
• Conducting research and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
• Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events.

Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained : a) Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at SPM level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government for Malaysian citizens; b) IELTS Band 7 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without these qualifications will be required to sit for IIUM English Language Proficiency Test. IIUM is a smoke-free campus in support of Maqasid Shariah.
