The Manager, Hardware Design Engineering manages cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the electrical / mechanical system that they have designed.
Responsibilities
- Lead a complex project PCB design, up to 56 layers, 112G.
- Top-down (breakdown) the PCB design from Planning to detail PCB design.
- Supervise designers and troubleshoot and solve CAD software problems.
- Estimate effort accurately by PCB by project.
- Maintain the process within the team and keep the PCB team output at high quality.
- Lead planning a set of PCBs design at RFQ and planning stage, balance feasibility and cost.
- Accurate estimate PCB design effort and schedule.
- Lead peer review, manager review, and cross-site review.
- Capable to lead a complex PCB design (server, storage, switch).
- Capable to top-down the PCB design from Planning to detail PCB design.
- Capable to supervise other designers and help troubleshoot and solve CAD software problems.
- Maintain PCB design integrity through updates and records of changes.
- Be the key interface; meet with project team leaders, designers, customers and suppliers.
- Initiate and lead activities to improve the design process and increase the efficiency of design tools.
- Evaluate, recommend and test CAD software and other programs necessary for PCB design.
- Seek out new approaches for building internal and external relationships; maintain contacts with existing relationships.

Manage PCB / Library resources and oversee relevant activities and deliverables.Stay on top of team and project levels; manage the impact of change from relevant functions.Develop PCB / Library team capability and successors; promote teamwork.Maintain PCB design guideline and processes; breakdown and plan complex work.Familiar with SCH / PCB design tools for automation and efficiency.Interface with customers, suppliers and internal teams; build and maintain relationships.Project management skills.Design Skill
Extensive computer and ECAD tools knowledge; Cadence Allegro V17.x preferred.Understand electrical / mechanical / thermal constraints and choose the best layout strategy.Understanding of RF, Power, Analog is a plus.Experience running SI / PI tools; driving results is a plus.In-depth knowledge of electronics and PCB design; fabrication, assembly and test processes, including Valor Enterprise tool.Diagnose and prioritize issues and solve design-related problems.Soft Skill
Communicate with internal / external customers and suppliers; clear written and spoken communications.Detail-oriented; drive issues to root cause with logical problem solving.Proactively drive tasks independently and seek information internally and externally.Physical Demands
Duties performed in a normal office environment; may require extended periods of sitting and concentration.Repetitive manual movements are frequently required.Occasional travel may be required.Typical Experience
Minimum 5 years direct experience in complex PCB design; 8+ years preferred.Typical Education
Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational requirements may vary by geography.
