Overview

JOB PURPOSE

Lead, plan and manage EPIC operational activities by (i) ensuring compliance to accreditation requirements and ISO standards such as 17025, 45001 and 9001, (ii) ensuring compliance to IT and HSE regulations such as OSHA and FMA 1967, (iii) maintaining assets in good working order, (iv) supervising engineering design and prototyping fabrication services, and (v) supervising high performance computational services to ensure effective and efficient delivery in support of teaching, learning, research and innovation activities at the university.

Key Accountabilities

EPIC MANAGEMENT

Analyse and execute EPIC governance by (i) managing ISO activities per ISO 17025, 45001 and 9001 where relevant and applicable, (ii) enforcing IT, HSE regulations such as OSHA and FMA 1967 and other governance policies and requirements such as MYRA and SETARA, (iii) implementing Service Level Agreements with stakeholders, and (iv) overseeing internal and external compliance audits to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services in support of teaching, learning, research and innovation at the university.

DESIGN, FABRATION AND PROTOTYPING SERVICES

Lead and manage design, fabrication, and prototyping services by (i) supervising resources to fulfil EPIC business requirements ensuring service availability to stakeholders, (ii) providing consultancy and expert opinions in design, fabrication and prototyping related to mechanical, electrical, electronics, control and other engineering fields, (iii) endorsing design and analysis conforming to project requirements, and (iv) authorising back charging to clients and stakeholders to ensure an effective and efficient development and delivery of EPIC services in support of teaching, learning, research and innovation at the university.

EPIC EQUIPMENT AND CONSUMABLES MANAGEMENT

Lead and manage EPIC equipment and consumables by (i) implementing asset maintenance inclusive of calibration and certification, (ii) ensuring the acquisition of equipment conforms to prudent financial controls, and (iii) managing consumables via ULab inclusive of endorsing purchases for replenishment to ensure asset reliability and material availability in support of teaching, learning, research and innovation.

SECTION ADMINISTRATION

Manage the administration for the section by executing all administrative tasks such as budget and leave management, staff training and performance evaluation, and mentoring and guiding other executives in daily tasks to ensure smooth and continued operations of the department.

Qualifications & Experience

Education :

  • Recognised Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Product Design or any relevant field.

Working experience :

  • More than 8 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Research & Development, Innovation or Product Development.
  • Experience in CAD tools (CATIA, Siemens NX) and CAE tools (Ansys, Nastran, ADAMS) is an added advantage.
  • Reliable – able to complete an assignment given with least guidance. Self-initiative and responsible.
  • Communication skills – able to communicate well at all levels and can deliver messages accurately.
  • Planning and Coordination – able to plan and coordinate sequence of work to timely and satisfactorily complete tasks / assignments.
  • Time management – able to manage time to suit unexpected events / tasks and able to prioritize works based on importance and urgency.
  • Motivation – able to stimulate and energize oneself when facing difficulties in completing any assignment.
  • Report writing – able to write reports / proposals with tact, accuracy and conciseness with proper guidance from the technical member of the team.
  • Assertive – able to exercise assertiveness without attending to others.
  • Team work – able to nurture and maintain team spirit amongst team members.
  • Interpersonal relation skills – able to maintain and nurture relationship rapport with internal and external parties.
