Overview

Cost Accountant role based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Responsibilities and requirements are listed below. This position may involve regional coverage across APAC and EMEA where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and supervise the Cost Accounting transaction processing and ensure delivery quality in terms of accuracy, completeness and timeliness on a daily basis.
  • Serve as the stakeholder's first point of contact on Cost Accounting topics in the region (key contact and first-level support).
  • Review and provide guidance in performing account reconciliation when required.
  • Ensure that closing timelines meet the Group Corporate requirements.
  • Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities and coordinate with Local Services and other Financial Services functional teams to ensure timely and accurate closure of accounts for Evonik companies across Asia Pacific and EMEA, in accordance with work instructions and the SmartClose checklist.
  • Perform troubleshooting of issues and challenges related to Cost Accounting processes.
  • Ensure Internal Control Systems are implemented in Cost Accounting processes according to the control guideline; execute remediation plans if needed.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Local Services, other SSC teams, and Center of Excellence.
  • Coordinate changes to work instructions, standard operating procedures, and documentation for local variances.
  • Support Local Services in internal and external audits.
  • Ensure queries are attended to and resolved in a timely, responsible, and proactive manner.
  • Support Center of Excellence new initiatives in Cost Accounting processes.
  • Continuously support process improvement and harmonization within operations; align on standardization across regions and globally by end-to-end process areas in Cost Accounting.
  • Handle other assignments / projects as assigned; monitor and ensure new system testing and integration / functional testing are completed on time to minimize operational impact.
  • Serve as decentral role-coordinator for the Cost Accounting process cluster roles in SSC APAC.
  • Coach and provide guidance / solutions to Cost Accounting team; identify skill gaps and develop upskilling training.
  • Perform backup duties including for Team Lead on daily tasks and, when required, step in for leadership in the Team Lead's absence.
  • Support and participate in hiring, resource planning, onboarding, and knowledge retention for the team.
  • Support in improving productivity through benchmarking and monitoring via Key Performance Indicators.
  • Assist in resolving accounting issues in consultation with the Team Lead / Functional Manager.

Qualifications

  • Holds a Degree or Professional Qualification in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of relevant experience with at least 1 year in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in additional languages may be advantageous depending on assignment.
  • Team player, meticulous, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IFRS, Cost Accounting processes, and other accounting functions.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Office; experience in SAP – FICO Module preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Ability to support APAC and EMEA regions and work according to relevant shift hours (if required).
  • Exposure to manufacturing or shared services environment is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
