Job Summary
Advising on banking and general business law issues and managing the legal issues of all areas of the company, including but not limited to banking, IT, risk, corporate matters, procurement, safety, security, insurance and sustainability issues. This role reports to Head, Legal.
Job Responsibilities
- Assisting the Head of Legal in offering reliable legal counsel and assistance on a variety of legal matters pertaining to the operations of the Company.
- Drafting, evaluating, and negotiating straightforward and intricate contracts, such as those pertaining to ongoing and upcoming projects, financial products and services provided by the company.
- Project management, including oversight and legal guidance for special projects involving capital injection, shareholder agreements, and other matters when legal counsel has the broadest perspective.
- Offering guidance on general business law matters and overseeing the legal concerns pertaining to each part of the business, including but not limited to corporate, sales, data, and operational matters.
- Take the initiative, collaborate, and work with the company's other sections, such as Corporate Management, Product Development, Operations, and Technology, as well as the supporting departments of Finance, Risk, Compliance, and Audit, to resolve problems or matters that have an impact on the company's operations.
- To ensure that business operations and projects comply with pertinent laws and regulations.
- To foresee and handle the (legal) risks associated with or resulting from the business strategy and operations.
- Provide guidance and manage other legal team members where required.
Job Requirements
Law degree from a reputable universityMinimum of 7 years of legal practice experience (in practice or in-house) in banking or financial servicesFamiliar with banking and corporate law generallyIn-depth knowledge of Malaysia corporate and commercial laws, regulatory frameworks, contract lawStrong conceptual, strategic thinking and resourcefulFluency in drafting commercial and corporate agreementsAbility to negotiate and influence / persuade / convince peopleOptional but Preferred
Masters or other Tertiary degree (in addition to law degree) is an advantageExperience or knowledge in any of the following : competition law, intellectual property law, insurance, IT-contracts (SaaS-based), mergers and acquisition, corporate secretarialSeniority Level
