Purpose of Role
To oversee and manage all legal matters of Experian Group companies in Malaysia, with a key focus on our Credit Bureau business.
The role is highly visible and involves advising multiple functions across the organization and providing legal support on matters of strategic, financial, and reputational importance, as well as day-to-day operations.
Candidate Profile
This is a sole contributor role, requiring a candidate who can work independently in a fast-paced environment managing a broad scope of responsibilities and competing priorities with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with senior managers, colleagues, and junior team members across the business.
Cross-cultural awareness and the ability to work across diverse teams are essential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice and support on complex commercial transactions across the Malaysian business.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents and contracts across all the business units (approximately 70% of work time).
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments in Malaysia, advise on potential impacts to the business and provide risk mitigation strategies (approximately 20% of work time).
- Deliver day-to-day legal support and guidance to cross-functional teams (Sales, HR, Product, Finance, Marketing, Operations, DPO) advising on applicable laws and regulations, including corporate law, contract law, intellectual property, employment.
- Manage relationships with external legal advisors.
- Provide legal support to broader Southeast Asia Legal and Business teams as required, contributing to regional initiatives.
- Partner with global and regional legal teams on various tasks and projects.
Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
Law degree.7–10 years of PQE, either in private practice or in-house (in-house experience is an advantage).Solid experience in negotiating complex commercial transactions and drafting contracts.Substantial experience in advising on privacy and data protection matters.Experience in the banking, financial, or credit services industry is an advantage.Experience in employment law is an advantage.Established relationships with regulatory bodies are an advantage.Strong business orientation, with the ability to provide practical, commercially sound legal advice.
