Overview

The Director of Engineer will report directly to the Director of Engineering & Projects and Cluster General Manager and is responsible for leading the engineering departments for SUNWAY RESORT HOTEL, SUNWAY PYRAMID HOTEL and SUNWAY LAGOON HOTEL, driving technical innovation, and ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects. This role involves strategic oversight of engineering processes, mentoring teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with cross-functional leadership to align engineering efforts with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the engineering strategy to support organizational goals.
  • Oversee the operation of all relevant technical systems and regular inspection of plants & other technical operation.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development of engineering staff.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for engineering projects and team performance.
  • Formulates maintenance policies and operating standards so as to maximize equipment efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Prepares the annual budget, monitors and controls the expenditure for the expected overall operation costs of the Technical Services Section, especially the replacement of major equipment.

Project Management

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with engineering projects and systems.
  • Ensure that the preventive maintenance program is implemented according to schedule.
  • Recommends any adjustment / modification regarding the system to achieve improvement.
  • Responsible for the administration and management of M & E services and property management.
  • Oversees the implementation of energy audit and utility conservation measures.
  • Initiates and plans major repairs and modification works and other programs to improve performance of common services.
  • Liaise with local statutory governmental organization with matters pertaining to, including but not limited to, the use of utilities such as water, gas and electricity, licensing, Inspection, testing to satisfy statutory requirements of all engineering systems.
  • Ensures all term contractors’ works meet the scope, terms and conditions as specified and agreed in the maintenance / works contracts.
  • Responsible that all engineering staff is equipped with reaction procedures to emergency situations, especially power failure; lift malfunction etc.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between the engineering team and executive leadership.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including product development, sales, and operations, to align engineering efforts with business needs.
  • Present technical updates, project progress, and strategic recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.

    • Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to maintain product or system reliability.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and address potential issues.

    • Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Chief Engineer in a hotel industry or facilities management.
  • Expertise in various systems like HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other building systems is essential. Familiarity with water treatment, hydraulics, chillers, and other specialized areas is also crucial.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation practices.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex engineering projects from concept to completion.
