Vacancy : EHS Specialist

Location : Nilai

As the EHS Specialist you will be responsible for supporting the EHS Manager in deploying EHS requirements and creating a mature EHS culture within the plant. This includes providing technical expertise and influencing line management to promote leading EHS behaviours. You will advise management and plant employees on compliance with EHS legal requirements as well as Group and Sector EHS standards and policies, in line with the Johnson Matthey value of Protecting people and the planet.

Responsibilities

  • Identify applicable EHS legislation and advise management on compliance.
  • Advise and assist the Plant EHS Manager in complying with JM Group EHS requirements including policies, guidance, standards and EHS reporting requirements (ISO14001 and OHSAS18001).
  • Ensure Life Saving Policies are understood, training delivered, and compliance monitored.
  • Ensure that Group and Sector EHS initiatives are adequately deployed across the site.
  • Ensure the EHS arrangements meet legal and JM requirements are internally audited, actions agreed and completed tracked.
  • Implement occupational health exposure monitoring and advise on control strategies to achieve agreed exposure limits (Legal and Group).
  • Liaise with external parties on compliance with legal permits and other requirements.
  • Ensure all emergency evacuation plans and procedures are robust, executed and continuously improved.

Requirements for the role

  • Hold or have completed a recognised degree in any field.
  • Certified Professional in Safety and Health Officer (SHO).
  • Knowledge in Manufacturing, basic knowledge in Process Safety, knowledge on Radiation Safety and Protection program.
  • Sound knowledge and skills in IH / OH programs.
  • Ability to conduct high quality and detailed Risk Assessments (e.g., HIRARC, EAI, JSA / JHA).
  • Ability to conduct Process Safety Risk Assessments (e.g., HAZOP Study, PSSR, LOPA).
  • Ability to conduct high quality Incident Reporting and Investigation including root cause analysis (RCA) and Human Factor Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Safe Work Practices program (e.g. WAH, LOTO, PTW, manual handling, heavy lifting, confined space) as per JM EHS requirements.
  • Experience in EHS Management Systems, particularly Environmental & Sustainability, Occupational Safety & Health and Emergency Response Plan (minimum 4 years).
  • Proactive in devising, monitoring and reviewing daily / monthly EHS & WWTP reporting.
  • Computer literate (e.g., Microsoft Office, SharePoint, eSWIS).
  • Knowledge of IATF16949, ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
