Maintenance & Mechanical Engineering Lead
About the Role
We are seeking a hands‑on leader to own plant reliability and mechanical engineering excellence across mixing, filling, and packing lines; injection and moulding assets; and site utilities (compressed air, chilled water, boilers, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and water systems). The role drives safety, uptime, quality, and cost efficiency, while reducing reliance on manual labour through automation and predictive maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and motivate the maintenance team; set clear goals and accountability.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians; build skills through structured training and certification.
Develop and enforce maintenance policies, standards, and procedures.
Promote a culture of safety, legal compliance, and continuous improvement.
Maintenance Operations
Plan, assign, and review daily maintenance work to ensure timely, high-quality completion.
Ensure all equipment, utilities, and facilities are maintained in optimal condition.
Respond to emergency breakdowns to restore operations quickly.
Plan and execute shutdowns and major maintenance with cross‑functional teams.
Reliability, Prevention & Prediction
Design and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
Introduce predictive maintenance tools and data analytics where practical (for example : vibration checks, thermal imaging, lubrication analysis, ultrasonic leak detection).
Identify machine downtime and bottlenecks; perform root‑cause analysis and implement solutions.
Mechanical Engineering & Projects
Provide technical leadership for the design, development, testing, and implementation of mechanical systems and upgrades.
Lead or support capital improvement projects, installations, and modifications.
Own Capital Expenditure (Capex) and Operating Expenditure (Opex) planning, approval packs, and delivery accountability.
Performance & Cost Management
Monitor maintenance costs and resource utilisation; identify cost‑saving opportunities.
Optimise equipment performance and reliability to enhance productivity and reduce total cost of ownership.
Drive Capex and Opex performance to targets; track benefits realisation for approved projects.
Manage spare parts strategies, inventory levels, and supplier relationships to balance risk, cost, and availability.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate engineering documentation (technical reports, specifications, drawings, maintenance records).
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and organisational safety standards.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Work with Production, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and Finance to align plans and priorities.
Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices; deploy relevant innovations.
What You Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Seven to ten years of experience in fast‑moving consumer goods or process packaging plants, covering both production equipment and site utilities.
Strong command of reliability methods (for example : Reliability‑Centered Maintenance, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Total Productive Maintenance, predictive tools).
Proven ability to lead teams, close safety and compliance gaps, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
Experience with enterprise or computerised maintenance systems for work orders, spare parts, and asset history.
Excellent problem‑solving, vendor management, and cross‑functional communication skills.
Success Measures
Reduction of unplanned downtime and improvement of overall equipment effectiveness.
High adherence to preventive maintenance schedules and faster breakdown recovery time.
Improved energy efficiency and optimised maintenance cost.
Reliable spare parts availability and on‑time, on‑budget delivery of improvement projects with clear payback or internal rate of return.
Capex and Opex delivered within approved budgets, with verified benefits.
Why Join Us
Impact at scale in a growing manufacturing group with a clear transformation agenda.
