Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and linguistically skilled Translator to provide high-level Japanese language support to a Japanese superior. This role requires not only fluency in Japanese, English and Mandarin, but also a deep understanding of Japanese business etiquette, communication styles, and cultural nuances. The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between the superior and local teams, ensuring smooth and respectful communication across all levels.

Key Responsibilities

Translate spoken and written communication between Japanese, English & Mandarin, including meetings, emails, reports, and presentations.
Provide real-time interpretation during internal and external meetings, site visits, and business negotiations.
Travelling with Japanese superior on domestic business trips to various regions to support market research, customer engagement, and sales activities when necessary.
Ensure culturally appropriate and accurate translations that reflect tone, intent, and context.
Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, documentation, and coordination as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications.

Qualifications

Proficiency in Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent), English & Mandarin.

Proven experience in translation and interpretation, preferably in a corporate or multinational setting.

Strong understanding of Japanese business culture and etiquette.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Bachelor’s degree in Language Studies, Translation, International Relations, or related field preferred.

Preferred Attributes

Prior experience working with Japanese executives or in a Japanese company.

Familiarity with industry-specific terminology, e.g., Sales & Marketing.

Adaptability and cultural sensitivity.
