Low Carbon and Energy Efficiency Engineer

Location : Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur / Johor)

Starting date : September 2023

Introduction : Headquartered in Europe, my client is a global consulting and engineering company that has been involved in energy efficiency and green building engineering for 25 years. Created in 1993, the company is a pioneer of energy-saving and sustainable buildings. With a 50+ team of multidisciplinary engineers, the company operates worldwide (South-East Asia, China, Africa, and Latin America) and covers the full building life cycle, from design to operation and maintenance.

The company offers sustainable design solutions, environmental certification management for LEED / Green Mark / BREEAM / WELL, low-carbon design (LCA, sustainable materials), building simulations (thermal modeling, daylight, CFD), energy audits, and other related studies and energy management practices (ISO 50001, IPMVP).

Job responsibilities

  • Under the responsibility of the Singapore / Malaysia / Indonesia Operations Manager, participate in projects in South-East Asia with a focus on industrial facilities.
  • Build simulations using professional tools such as DesignBuilder and IES-VE for preliminary and detailed energy models.
  • Perform computational fluid dynamics simulations (DesignBuilder, Ansys) to assess indoor operating conditions for occupant health, safety, comfort, and process conditions.
  • Conduct data analytics to support technical studies.
  • Evaluate building envelope and MEP systems for greenfield and brownfield projects with performance and budget goals.
  • Provide energy audit services with performance impact estimates of proposed energy efficiency measures in existing buildings.
  • Deliver monitoring-based commissioning services involving data visualization to spot faulty HVAC operations.
  • Offer low-carbon consultancy services combining operational and embodied carbon footprint evaluation and related environmental impact-lowering measures.
  • Review plans, documentation, and contractor submittals for compliance; perform construction field visits to verify progress and resolve field issues.
  • Conduct on-site energy audits for existing facilities and present performance improvement options to clients.
  • Prepare organized, technically accurate emails, memos, and reports; learn and apply best-practice fundamentals for high-performance building enclosures, mechanical and plumbing systems, zero-energy features, and low-carbon materials.
  • Grow into a project management role as main client contact, track schedules and deliverables, delegate tasks as needed, and integrate diverse knowledge to provide insightful information to clients.

Requirements

Academic Background and Professional Experience

  • Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) / Master of Science (M.S.) or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or related majors.
  • 4-5 years of energy efficiency or related mechanical engineering experience (experience with building simulation, energy auditing, commissioning, and industrial facilities preferred).
  • Skills

  • Solid knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and principles, including HVAC, lighting, motors, fluids, heat transfer, and heat recovery (pinch method).
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Experience with ASHRAE energy audits.
  • Knowledge of energy management practices and familiarity with ISO 50001.
  • Understanding of green building certification schemes (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, Green Mark, GBI).
  • Abilities

  • Technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts and tools.
  • Strong writing, verbal communication, interpersonal, training, and analytical skills.
  • Strong judgment and critical thinking to challenge assumptions and solve problems.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Software proficiency : at least one energy modeling tool (DesignBuilder, IES-VE, Ansys, etc.).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Experience with OneClick LCA is a plus.
